Would take Michael Kay over Tom Grieve every single day.
MrMan
I don't blame the Padres at all for this. They have a traditionally deep pen, and now theyve traded away/let go 3 good-to-great relievers in the past year (Bell, Adams, and now Frieri). Padres need help in the field, not in their staff. Angels gave up a couple of really good pieces for Frieri. Amarista was supposed to be the Macier Izturis of the future for them and hit well in ST, and Roach has been hitting well. hate to see the Angels pick up a good reliever, but you can't blame San Diego for it. For them, it was a decent trade.

OK yea somehow I posted that in the WRONG forum...fail...oh well.

Fuck you, Michael Kay.

And to continue to beat the tar out of this thing, I offer the following:

I promise this is the last I will say on the subject, but it goes all over me how sanctimonious announcers such as Michael Kay are, especially when they cater to some of the most obnoxious fans on the planet.
He's a tool.

Michael Kay is a pro. The YES Network has announcers who are objective about the game of baseball.
If you judge Michael Kay's baseball credibility because he had a stupid overreaction to an old schmo who wouldn't give a baseball to a little whining-ass baby, then maybe you should reevaluate what constitutes a good play-by-play man.
eric
I'm not judging his baseball credibility, I just think he's a sanctimonious asshole for saying that. He can be a great baseball announcer and a grade-A douchecopter at the same time. Our erstwhile "ace" C.J. manages to be one while being a pretty good pitcher on the field.
Andy
Some would argue your often emotional reactions, Andy, are not unlike Kay's reaction to the ballgate incident.
MrMan
Well, I hope I didn't offend you with my outspoken disdain for those who show contempt for the people of my state at large based on the actions of one or two people therein. No, it seems to me that this latest statement is simply a way to get an extra dig in against Texas as a sort of "brick joke" to his previous remarks, which I think were out of line myself. I don't care whether you think he did the right thing or not by not giving up the ball, calling someone out for what you perceive as a breach of informal baseball etiquette isn't the same as condemning a crime in progress, which is what it sounded like he was doing. And it was blown way out of proportion.
I'm sorry you feel perturbed by my "emotional reactions." I'll make sure to exercise more judgment in the future so as to not be offensive. Wouldn't want to impose on anyone.
Andy
Andy, I couldn't agree more. I have no idea how "professional" Kay is in his play-by-play capacity because I've never watched a game on the YES network. But regardless of his supposed expertise as a broadcaster, his comments during that whole situation were just outrageous and vilifying. It would have been one thing if the couple had taken the ball from the kid, but they did absolutely nothing to justify the humiliation that this scumbag put them through.
And to bring it up again and insult the classiness of OUR fanbase is just disgusting when you consider the awful fans at Yankee Stadium. It's like Owen Wilson making fun of Brad Pitt for having a funny nose.
David G. (Waco)
To be completely honest, I just don't know how someone can say "Fuck you" to anyone (indirectly over the Internet or not) for an issue as meaningless as this one. I'm from California, so I don't have any sort of tie to the state of Texas, but even as such I don't think his comments were all that bad. He was making an assessment of a situation as he saw it, and he was wrong, and it was stupid. It was stupid to say those things and it was stupid to include that little saga as some sort of lubricant to move the game along.
But even so, it's pretty sensitive to feel offended by an incident that involves you only loosely. Whether he was being "vilified" or not (I think that's a little strong), it's just a stupid fan with his stupid wife at one stupid baseball game of 162. I don't think going to see baseball games live are as fun as they were when I was a little kid, because 95% of the fans are just dumb and clueless and oblivious to what's important.

The highlight of this thread:
"grade-A douchecopter"
James M.
Eric missed the memo that "fuck you" just means "I think you were really stupid that one time" in the language known as "Internet."
Joel
What's the Internet?
eric
I would take Michael Kay over Tom Grieve if we are talking about PBP, but Grieve is the color broadcast player. Kay obviously is a FAIL at trying to bring color to the table... BTW Michael Kay blows in comparison to the guys who filled that role as his predecessors. Mel Allen he is not.
sKen
Isn't Kay the same guy who alleged that C. Lee was cheating by having something on his cap?
Zach26
People actually like Michael Kay?
mind blown

Here's an addendum to the entire fiasco fueled by that boob Michael Kay from the YES Network concerning the couple not donating their ball to a crying child next to them at RBiA recently.
Thursday night while watching the Skankees play the Royals in Kansas City, there was a scene of a man/father handing a retrieved foul ball to his son/a little boy next to him.
Naturally, the next thing spouted from the moron at the YES mike was: "Well, that's NOT the kind of thing we see in Texas.''
Sheesh...thank goodness we aren't subjected to that sort of drivel on a daily basis.
We get cookie talk instead.
