What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
The New York Times Reports that the Blue Jays were the high bidders for Darvish. http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/yankees/blue_jays_believed_to_outbid_yankees_2iwMCIwJ1gcFbjA9QYntaM
They seem to tie a bow on it and SI quickly re-reported it. But, the only real facts being reported are that the Blue Jays made a monster bid of 40-50 mil. It seems that the report is the bid was large, rather than the largest.
Evan Grant posted on twitter that the Rangers bid was also considered to be 40-50 mil earlier in the day. It seem that there is a lot of faulty information that will float around for the next few days as the Fighters are not expected to make a decision until Tuesday of next week (Knobler).
I feel everyone that was a serious bidder knew they would have to bid higher than Boston's bid for Dice-K. I feel pretty good in saying I think the Rangers bid higher than 51 mil.
Here is an article from a newspaper site that's been translated to English from Japanese. It's difficult to understand but gives some interesting info and speculation:
Posting System (bidding) Nippon measure aims to transfer using Darvish have pitchers (25) came out Rangers team could be the best bid. Dawn on January 16 (15 EST), was reported in local newspapers such. Bids million dollars to $ 49.004 million (£ 3.1 billion 100000000-38 yen) and expected. Bid at 7:00 am on July 15 (5:00 pm on April 14 Bronze) are closed to the Major League Baseball has announced that there was a team wants to win. Darvish bidding competition is likely to six teams finally entered the final phase.
Darvish team to the highest bid, the Rangers could become rich. The Dallas Morning News reporter Evan Grant of the paper's local newspaper reports the military, to $ 49.004 million million dollars record forces (100000000-38 yen 3.1 billion yen) is believed to have offered the highest bid , he muttered on Twitter.
Darvish is bidding, and will end at 7:00 am on May 15, Japan time, the battle began between the U.S. media information immediately.
Expected bid for the site survey team Manchester United, according to American newspapers New York, reported that the Yankees bid just before closing time keeper had one mind, had surprises. Local newspaper the Chicago Tribune, "the Cubs have bid" in the form of reports conclude. Motion is a pre-bid 見Senakatta, T · Mr. Epstein is responsible for organizing, posting a time in Red Sox Matsuzaka arrived, he was the GM of the team as "auction experience" to just under the surface dull As I was looking to acquire.
With respect to the initial bid price, closing price of $ 1,111.11 ten thousand Matsuzaka 5111 Red Sox arrived in 2006 (approximately 60.3 billion yen at the rate of time) exceeds $ 55 million (£ 4.3 billion), partly reports the addition, the New York Post, and counties of $ 30 million (£ 2.3 billion) in the following articles and observations. In most situations the local paper 報Jinai Blue Jays and the Cubs, Dallas - Twitter by reporters Grant, the tide seems to be suddenly changed.
Under these circumstances, military records, you can compete with a large reinforcement of Angels nemesis, had just been caught Darvish said.
In the future, 21 7:00 am Japan time, to answer whether or not to accept the bid Nippon. If accepted, the winning team is revealed the exclusive right to negotiate. But Mr. D'Farusa father (51) is so far "only applicants starting line," and stressed that any talks soon. Appointed laws and team spirit, as well in determining a comprehensive and financially, depending on conditions presented, which left open the possibility to remain in Nippon. Also bid for the club uncertain.
Pitcher big FA's off now, the million dollars 7750 total of five years C · J · Wilson arrived in the Angels (approximately ¥ 6.0 billion), M · Burley arrived Marlins $ 58 million total of four years (approximately 4.5 billion yen) in the contract. Likely to be compared first two pitchers. Anteremu Mr. Nomura team pulled out through an agent in his best condition, on the stage of longing
What exactly does all that gibberish tell us? I'm sorry, I don't get it.
"Under these circumstances, military records, you can compete with a large reinforcement of Angels nemesis, had just been caught Darvish said."Is that supposedly a quote from darvish with the implication being he will be pitching against the Angels? Sorry, still trying to get this gibberish.
I ran the article through a few other translators and this one came out the clearest. I think it's pretty much giving a play by play of what all of us have gone through the past 48 hours and NOT stating there is a clear winner yet:
A bid best Darvish Rangers for 3,800 million yen
Darvish that a bid was closed. The possibility that the best bid sum baseball team of the Nippon Meat Packers Yu Darvish pitcher (25) who aimed at the major transfer using posting system (bid system) that both Japan and the United States baseball world paid attention to was Rangers came out next year what uniform you wore. It was reported with (U.S. Eastern Time 15th), local paper on the early morning of 16th. The amount of bid is thought to be 40 million dollars - 49 million dollars (approximately 3,100 million yen - 3,800 million yen). The bid was closed at (afternoon of 14th 5:00) at 7:00 a.m. on 15th, and the U.S. major leagues system clarified that there was a baseball team in hope of acquisition. Last situation finally contained the Darvish contest considered that six baseball teams bid it.In the best bid baseball team to Darvish, possibility of Rangers became strong. When it seemed that the レ forces showed the best bid sum of 40 million dollars - 49 million dollars (approximately 3,100 million yen - 3,800 million yen), reporter Evan Grant of the local paper Dallas Morning News paper of the レ forces murmured it at Twitter. When a bid to Darvish was closed at 7:00 a.m. of 15th in Japan time, an information battle began immediately at the U.S. media interval.
I reported that most popular Yankees closed it and bid the successful bid baseball team expectation questionnaire of the U.S. transfer information site according to each New York paper just before time, but there was the surprise. The Chicago Tribune paper of the local paper is reported in form to conclude, "Cubs participated in a bid". The movement to bid it for beforehand did not show it, but, as for Mr. T エプスタイン in charge of the formation, Matsuzaka seemed to scheme Dal acquisition only in "successful bid experienced person" which acted as GM of the baseball team in those days when Red Sox became you by posting under the surface of the water.
There was the news of 55 million dollars (approximately 4,300 million yen) more than 51,110,000 amount of successful bid 1111.11 dollars (at a rate approximately 6,030 million yen) of Matsuzaka who entered Red Sox at first in 2006 about the bid amount of money, but the New York Post paper places an observation article that the ヤ forces are less than 30 million dollars (approximately 2,300 million yen). In the situation that most of the local paper of Cubs and Blue Jays does not report, a situation is a different design by Twitter of the Grant reporter of Dallas - at a stretch. It was said that it was only Darvish collecting that the レ forces could be opposed to large-scale reinforcement of old enemy Angels in such situation.
I will reply it in future whether Nippon Meat Packers accepts a bid by 7:00 a.m. of 21st in Japan time. When I accept it, the baseball team which got exclusive negotiating rights is revealed. But father, farse of Dal (51) is emphasis in "starting line and none of being up to negotiations until now until the application opens". It is likely that I judge the atmosphere of the appointment method and the team, a money side generally and leaves possibility to remain behind in Nippon Meat Packers depending on a shown condition. I am unpredictable for the successful bid baseball team.
In the pitcher off FA big shot, M Barrie where C J Wilson who entered Angels entered 5 total of 77,500,000 dollars a year (approximately 6 billion yen), Marlins just contracted with it for 4 total of 58 million dollars a year (approximately 4,500 million yen). At first these 2 pitchers seem to become the target for comparison. I draw the best condition through Mr. Arne テレム, an agent of 団野村氏 and enter the longed-for stage.
HA! Nippon Meat Packers.... what a wonderful translation.
Well sheesh, that is about as clear as mud. Translation en ingles, por favor.
Darvish shouldn't know for sure which team won. The identity of the team is ostensibly unknown until they have accepted the bid. So any quotes interpreted like a couple of the ones above should be taken with a grain of salt.
If We and Toronto are close, the Nippon Ham FIghters or whatever they're called will probably take our bid, as Darvish is less likely to sign with a team that has slim chances at the playoffs for years to come. I assume Darvish would prefer the spotlight to duking it out with Baltimore for 4th place in the AL East.
There is a VERY REAL chance Toronto's bid is probably intended more to keep Darvish away from the Yankees and the Red Sox than to actually sign him. IF that's the case, they'll play cheap in the Darvish negotiations, Darvus will say no and wait till next year, and the Ham FIghters get nothing.
If the Rangers get the bid.... They will sign Darvish.
if Toronto is higher they win, they dont get to pick which offer...if Rangers are out on Darvish then Fielder it will be
If the Rangers can't pull the trigger on a 25 year old potential TORP for a combined $120M $50M of which does not apply to payroll), who could be very productive for a long time? I doubt they turn to a fat first-baseman for 8/$200M, even $160M, as an alternative. How so many of you don't see the big picture, astounds me... being such astute baseball guys that is.
Thanks for the insight Ricky.
It's like the engilsh translation of Indian "Thriller".
Seriously, are you ricky "rangers homer"? If you are, i guess newbergs got tired of you too.
TexPantego - I was thinking Nippon had to either accept the highest bid or decline it. I don't think they are able to see all bids and select which team Darvish will negotiate with. Am I just way off base in my thinking there?
They don't even see the next highest bid. MLB only submits the highest bid, then its yes or no.
If the Jays won this thing with a bid between 40-50 mil, as reported by ESPN dufuses this AM, I am really going to be pissed, as it seemed pretty clear to me a team really wanting this guy would need to go higher than the Dice-K bid, but I guess it's time to focus on other players and/or trades, cause the news is overwhelmingly in favor of the Jays.
Unfortunately, more and more sources are starting to report that the Jays had the highest bid - though they all seem to be citing King so here's to hoping that he's wrong. Assuming he's not wrong, I sure hope it's true that Darvish does not want to play for a team on the east coast. I'd say Toronto is close enough to fit that bill.Does anyone know what the process is if the team with the highest bid fails to sign him in the 30 day period?
Hey Bon, without a doubt it's Ricky. Here are the reasons I know why:1. very pro Darvish as a MLB TORP pitcher, even though no one really knows, just like Ricky2. very ant-Fielder signing, to the point of insulting the man, i.e fat, etc etc..ala Ricky3. very demeaning to other posters: "How so many of you don't see the big picture, astounds me." definately like Ricky used to demean others &4. This Rangers Homer fella magically showed up a few days after Ricky "disappeared."I guess he isn't as smart as he led us all to believe, because he doesn't even have the sense to type statements and opinions differently, you know what they say, a leopard can't change it's spots, just it's name apparently.
Dark, my understanding is he will simply go back and pitch in Japan. He will have the 9 years of service in after next season, so he will be a FA for 2013, free to sign with anyone at that point.
Wanting to win shouldn't be how you select your bid. Pay what something is worth, if someone overpays, let them.
I believe if they don't reach a contact the post fee is returned and he plays in Japan another year.
Not that I think he will do this, but If Darvish is able to be a full-on FA next year, why wouldn't he just wait? Whether it's salary or posting free, whatever a team spends it is spending to have Yu pitch for them. It stands to reason that they would spend the same if they were just dealing with Yu directly. So why wouldn't Yu (or any other big-time japanese guys) that close to free agency just wait. By leaving a year early, he's essentially passing the posting fee (50 mil+) onto the team.
He has at least 2 (and it may be 3) years left in Japan until he is a Free Agent. That's why he's posting. If he was 1 yr away, he wouldn't have posted at all.
Just speculating, MexMax, because I can't pretend to know Darvish's mind, but my understanding is that Japanese players as a rule do not come to the US strictly for the money. It's usually about the glory and playing for big-name teams that are well known in Japan and the possibility of titles. Darvish would certainly get more money personally if he waited a year, but maybe since Nippon Ham is a very low revenue franchise even as Japanese teams go, he is doing this now to help them out? Additionally they would not have to pay him next year (he is the highest paid player in the league).
