What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
I understand that Darvish's Japanese team will be informed of the highest bid today, but will not know what team made that bid and that they have until December 20th to determine whether to accept or reject that bid. If that is the case, I guess we may not even know who won the bidding until they accept or reject the bid by the 20th? Anyone have any insight on this?
I think you're correct, I read something about it earlier today. I believe they have 4 days to inform MLB on accepting or rejecting. I would guess that means 4 business days, so that would be 12/20.
The highest bidder will almost certainly be revealed by friday and I don't expect Nippon Ham to turn any bids over $35M down. That would then move us in to the next stage of the process which has a 30 window to negotiate a contract.
The Yankees won a bid for Hiroyuki Nakajima last week but it didn't garner as much National attention.
First tweet that let me know the Rangers, even if they did bid, are out:The Yankees did post a bid, according to ESPN.com's Buster Olney The second tweet that let me know the Yankees won it:The Nippon Ham Fighters were very excited by how large the high bid was according to Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com Note the time of this posting, nothing official as of yet, Yankees won the bid folks, next..maybe Fielder? But probably not, don't want to damage any "business model." BS
Its no guarantee that we lost either. The yanks could have bid 35 mil and we could have bid 36 and the fighters were expecting a high of 30. You never know. I think jd is just being sneaky again.
Its being reported now that the Yankees bid is "modest" and the winning bid is "sky high." Ok, I demand a recount, I change my prediction to the Blue Jays as I believe the stories of the Rangers money situation, not the "they are playing poker" rumors. With that being said, I do want to be wrong, as I am one of the guys who would love to see darvish hurling it in Arlington next season...bump it!
I dont really know why anthopoulos would blow $100 mil on one player after the horrible contracts from the past (wells, rios)
I think we can safely bet that it is either the jays, rangers, or marlins that won. I think the marlins won with a bid of $75 mil
Touche, but I have read they have cash and are interested in Darvish..I suppose a wild card that hasn't been mentioned much would be the Marlins.
Apparently "confirmed teams" areYankeesCubsRangersBlue Jays
No bid list includesRaysAngelsTwinsOriolesRed SoxRedsMarlins
Theo making another big run?
People keep throwing the Marlins out there, but I have seen nothing tying them to a bid. People are throwing the Marlins out there on Prince too. But I've heard they are specifically not interested in him. I don't think it's a given at all the Fla bid. They were willing to spend on Pujols and Reyes, I hear, in part to bring the Latin market to the stadium. Now, they certainly might bid, but I don't think they're intending to spend like total drunken sailors.
Anything on the Mariners position? have they been confirmed as bid or no?
The rangers bid? I also found this
The Marlins did not bid on Darvish, according to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald (on Twitter).
Rangers should sign fielder right now.....then they also get the rights to darvish.....goodbye angel talk!!!!
I too figured Seattle would be in on this... but maybe the big cash dump scared them away.
Much speculation on twitter that the blue jays won with a bid upwards of 60 mil. Guess we will just have to wait and see
