What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
So will Texas just resign Blanco?
I like blanco, hes a decent middle infielder, and can knock a homer occasionally off the bench- pay him league minimum and keep him here- who I don't want is that turd estaban german. Two pinch hits in the WS? I would have rather him called a fan in from the stands to take a whack in place of our pitchers...
Yeah, where was the German that hit a ball out of Fenway earlier this year?
German is headed for the East Coast, the Far East Coast, so no Estaban sitings in the MLB this coming year. If Blanco is not resigned, the Rangers have already signed their Utility/SS in Yangervis Solarte. Check out his 2011 numbers, especially his K-rate, very impressive. He also plays the outfield as well as 2b and a little ss.
Also look at the kid they got from Baltimore in the Teagarden trade, Greg Miclat, to get an opportunity to win that job.
I like Blanco but I'm not sure if he is healthy. If he is, I'd brin him in and have him compete with Greg Miclat and Solarte. May the best man win.
Jeff Keppinger? He is a solid backup infielder.
I like Blanco, but only if his back is better and he can truly be a switch hitter again. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind seeing a guy like Theroit in here, or even Miclat win the job in spring training.
Keppinger has a sub-par arm for 3B and SS, but he does have a decent bat (career .281 BA, .290 against LH'ers). I think we go for a glove-guy though given how our D helped in making our pitching look good last year.
I'd take Keppinger over re-signing Blanco or especially Quintanilla (God help us if it comes to that) or German (oh, wait, he signed elsewhere...dang...)
I'm happy for the Astros that they got Lowrie, in that their new GM's first deal was a pretty good one, but I kinda thought he might fit in here too. Ah well, he's not the only one.
The Nationals signed Andres Blanco to a minor league deal, tweets MLB.com's Bill Ladson. In 82 plate appearances for the Rangers in 2011, the versatile 27-year-old posted a .224/.263/.342 line and played four positions.
That was today.
He batted .224. Nice. Did he play 1st, or what was the other position?
Blanco played 1 game in RF.
I don't think 44-year old Omar Vizquel has retired yet. I kinda like Will Rhymes.
Not much left out there for backup infielders:http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/news/hot_stove/y2011/free_agent_tracker.jsp?null§ion=1&sortbystat=POSITION
Brandon Wood's still out there if you think he just needs a change of scenery.
