What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
Just talked to a source that confirmed to me that Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez, is interested in a return to Texas. I think if he takes a lesser deal for us to use the salary that we save by trading Torrealba and use that for the bullpen, then this needs to happen.I think this would be a great deal. If we were to sign Pudge and Fielder, we could then trade Torre, Harrison, Moreland, and another prospect to the Rays for James Shields. Plus, Pudge even at this stage in his career is a much better defensive catcher than Torrealba.
I would not trade Harrison, he still has upside and he lefty starter who can consistenly touch 95 with control is rare. Just like Holland, may not match Price or Kershaw but may not be far behind. Torre is a solid backup who can be the main catcher. However, Pudge is the most engaging entertaining catcher - have ever seen and would be a fitting way to end his HOF career. Pudge does want to play until he reaches 3000 hits. Signing him for the next 3 years would ensure he enters the Hall a Ranger and would allow for Deglan, Alfaro, Tellis and Torres to develop and be ready in 2014 or 2015. If And a big questionable if Fielder is signed, and Moreland with Torrealba are traded to the Rays Wade Davis and a prospect like Alex Torres would be a better target, much more upside.,
Pudge as the backup here? Fine by me. He needs to come home anyway for one last season and he'd be a solid backup catcher.
I'm all for getting Pudge back here. We could use him and, from what it sounds like, he'd like to be back here. Good player, classy guy, let's do it.
In terms of trading Harrison, I'm a little torn. I'd love to put together a package to get a stud pitcher now, but I feel like Harrison is right on the cusp of being just that. I rather replace him in your scenario with another prospect or two.
Pudge is one of my all-time favorites, but he'd be a serious downgrade from Torrealba. I'm more interested in getting back to the World Series than saving $4 million next year.
You shut your dang mouth. Who cares about things like batting average and HR? The nostalgia alone would make it worth it. I being dead serious, too.
I'd absolutely love it if Pudge came back to finish his career in Texas. I like Yorvit, but I looove Pudge. What a feel-good story that would be, especially if JD declines to make any more big moves this year and it turns out we can't overtake the Angels in 2012. I'd like at least a little bit of heartwarming Pudge action to make up for another postseason heartache.
