What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
Wash got third place in manager of the year votes. You guys can burn in hell.
Lots of people around here are probably upset that he even got that high. No pun intended.
I bhave no problem with 3rd. After all, his team went to the world series the year before. I'm just surprised Manny Acta didn't get a little more consideration.
It's hard to fault them for Gibson and Maddon, especially Gibson. I don't think hardly anyone picked the D-Backs to win the NL West. And you have to think Kirk had something to do with that. I'm a bit surprised La Russa didn't beat Roenike. At least they didn't pick Girardi or Francona over Wash (nothing against them, of course).
I look at it this way: at least enough people recognized Wash's contributions to rank him 3rd. As wwjdd said, some people are probably upset he got ranked that highly. And I think those people are wrong.
Permit me to take this one step further: the media, in general, sucks. Last time I checked, baseball writers belong to that group, so guilty by association. Having said that, I do follow Buster on twitter, but only for up to the minute info. Go Wash.
Maddon deserved it. He's the best thing going at the moment. Would not upset me in the least to see Epstien land him in Chicago, and get him the hell out of the AL (and also tie his ass up to a long-term deal before the Yankees go and money-whip him).
Also, don't forget this voting is done pre-playoffs, so "team X went to the World Series, how could he not win it!" is moot.
Not all of the media sucks. I think baseball has more objective coverage than any other major sport in the US. Espcially on the internet.
I think Baseball is the most biased of all sports. I know there isn't such an East Coast bias in the NFL. There is one but the Cowboys, Packers, and San Francisco have kept that from being so obvious over the last few decades. In the Cowboys instance for almost 40 years they have been if not the highest among the highest rated teams for TV.
I just hope the Rangers can get there someday and running off a decade of winning baseball will as Bum Phillips (100 times the coach of his son) said knock on the door and eventually "Kick the Son of a Bitch" down. Phillips was referring to getting to the Super Bowl, I am of course referring to getting total national respect media wise.
Now that I think about it, the Rangers need a Pat Summeral and John Madden type national crew to hitch on to their bandwagon the way Summerall and Madden did the Cowboys. That will come with winning and firing Joe Buck.
Um, TB lost from from the '10 team Carl Crawford, Matt Garza, Rafael Soriano and his 45 saves, Carlos Pena, and Grant Balfour and replaced them with either prospects (Jennings) or cheap journeymen (Farnsworth) subsequently going from a $71 million dollar payroll in '10 to the 2nd-lowest payroll in MLB at a pathetic $41 million and still finished with 91 wins and made the playoffs. If you can do so much with so little, you deserve to win MOY. Homer bias sucks balls more than baseball writers do.
The Rays also signed Manny Ramirez, which was a complete waste of time and money. He was out at the beginning of the season.
