What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
If he would come back here for relatively cheap as a bench bat what do you guys think? Would Vladdy have done more in the WS than German? Would pitchers have feared one of the greatest bad ball hitters more than a AAA sensation???
German was on the roster as the Utility IF bc Blanco was injured. If German was not on the playoff roster, it would not have been to make room for Vlad. However, Vlad would have been a great bat to have for ph instead of Treanor.
But I think you don't need a DH-only on your bench for the regular season. I would rather acquire a ph bat through August waiver trade for a spare prospect.
The fact is you don't need any one dimensional players on this roster...Vlad is that...
I like Vlad, but not here, not anymore.
Agree with Scooby Jack & Andy. Guys like Vlad, Thome or Giambi are great to aquire once rosters expand but they're somewhat of a liability to carry the entire season. We'll see how the Thome 1B experiment works out in Philly next year.
What about MY?
Don't forget the clubhouse presence too! Our guys were much more nourished thanks to mamma Guerrero's home cooking
Vlad-and he seemed serious! GOOD LORD
You must be kidding right...
The guys I expected would hit it dead-on, did. Vlad etc. are August signings for a team in need when in contention. I don't carry dead weight and salary all season.
You don't carry anything all season except your big gut. Get off your high horse.
I carry around the fantasy that I'm somehow involved in the decision-making of the team at the upper levels.
greatest vlad quote i've ever heard courtesy of Jason Cole at Yahoo sports " When he's 50 and rolling up to bat in his wheelchair, he'll still be able to hit the damn ball"
Kudos. and not just a bench bat.... can you imagine if we played a line up with Naps and Vlad in every line up against the Angels.... we could throw 10 Feldman out in every game to pitch and those two alone would find a way to score 20 runs in anti Angels rage alone to win.... we'd never lose to the Angels again.....
It really isn't that crazy of an idea... Vlad was a big part of the 2010 team that took us to our first WS. Hell, he was a Silver Slugger in 2010. If he somehow wanted to come back here for relatively cheap and be a vet. bench bat and awesome clubhouse guy would that really be all that stupid? He signed a one year 8mil contract with Baltimore last year. Is a one year 2.5 to 3 mil deal really out of the question? We gave Webb a 3mil contract and how much did he contribute to our team in 2011???
I like that Jason Cole quote Dcaggie06
You're right-not a crazy idea at all--just the stupidest.
It makes very little sense to bring a guy like Vlad here for the entire season. If you look at the numbers, Moreland had similar production in about 100 fewer at bats, with a bit more power, and with an identical OPS (.733). Plus, Moreland can actually play RF in a pinch. Vlad at this point is probably a part-time DH in the AL, and a PH in the NL. As his bat speed gets even slower, he will quickly become completely useless at the plate, too.
So Moreland is a much better player to fill that roster spot, and Texas can do much better than Vlad if they feel they need to bring in a different OF, or if they end up losing Murphy or one of the others. As others have stated, I wish they would have had Vlad as PH in the St. Louis games. I think that was one of the big failings of the team, not having a bench for the NL games. So sure - get Vlad or someone like him in September for the playoffs. But you don't give him a roster spot all season long. I agree with Lyle - that would be pretty stupid.
