What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
but DAMN I love the player! MLB just had a nice piece on him and the highlight reel was SICK! Seems like I read or heard somewhere that he was a headcase and tough in the locker room. He obviously likes himself a whole lot but man THAT guy is good at baseball!
Are you making a suggestion as far as the Rangers go? If not, then who cares? There's lots of good baseball players.
His defense is pretty bad. I'm not sure I'd want someone who'd be a liability in the OF just because he's a good hitter. We have plenty of good hitters already.
You're probably right Andy. I don't really know much about him and the reel certainly leaned heavily on the wood. Of course there were a few diving plays in the outfield but that doesn't tell the whole story (obviously)
@jason... really? I was mostly just wondering what others thought about the player.. sorry to inflame your sensitivities. It is the off season you know... Is there some list i need to consult outlining relevant and permitted topics? I've actually seen/read conversation on this and other boards related to the Rangers. He did put up some great numbers this year.
I have some interest, if the trade price is right and he's willing to negotiate an extension.
By the way, the McCort news is not good from the perspective of getting a good price on Kemp or Ethier, and probably eliminates any real chance of Kershaw being dealt.
He shouldn't be playing CF, but yeah, he is a F*****g boss.
Matt Kemp.....I'll let him play in our outfield. I say "Matt Kemp" like Homer Simpson says "Donuts....."
The Dodgers would want too much for him. We can't sell the farm for him.
They don't exactly have a ton of leverage. He is a nice player. Excellent RH bat, multiple position player, and a fraction of Fielder money.
I was wonder what y'all think about Cody Ross?
"A fraction of Fielder money".
Not really. He made $10m or so in arb this year. Assume after an MVP and near-Triple-Crown year that goes up to $14-15m in final Arb year. And if you're giving anything up for him, I assume you're trying to extend him long-term. So I assume that's 5/$100m easy. So if by a fraction of Fielder money you mean 5/6ths, well, yeah that IS a fraction.
Kemp made $7.1M in 2011. Fielder made $15.5M. That was a fraction. Prince wants a reported (By Boras) 8/$200M. That's $25M a year. Kemp's $ amount won't double in arbitration. but if you get him and extend him, he'd probably cost you $15M a year. $15M for a guy just as young, more valuable on the field, and productive at the plate for a fraction, is still a better option to me, whatever that fraction should be. Plus gives you breathing capital to add another piece if needed. A two for the price of one Prince, if you will.
Cody Ross? Mehhh.
Prince won't get 8 years or $25/yr. Boras can ask for whatever he wants. But I think 6 years and $22ish per is about Prince's ceiling. Kemp won't be going for $15m per year either. He'll be in the $18-20m range once he signs long term, maybe for 5 years. It will be pretty close between the 2.
