What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
Whether we ultimately win or lose, It amazes me how good this team has turned out to be. They lead the World Series 3-2 despite the lack of a single good start from their prima donna "ace," CJ "I need to be made to feel special" Wilson. Last year's AL MVP needs surgery, is a shadow of his usual self, and hasn't been much of a factor. Their best hitter for average is 4-19 in the series. Nelson Cruz has only 2 RBIs. One of the purported bullpen saviors, Koji Uehera, isn't even on the roster.
If these guys could put it all together in just 1 of the next 2 games, they would destroy the Cardinals. Obviously, it's probably not going to happen for Hamilton, but if you get some combination of Kinsler, Young, Beltre, Cruz, and Napoli hitting well in the same game, they could easily end this thing with a bang. I'd love to see this offense show the country what it's capable of in game 6.
I just realized that Hamilton and Cruz have 4 RBIs total in this series! This is an incredibly balanced team to be able to overcome that.
Very, very good.
Why do I keep hearing the "if we loose" comments everywhere?
I'd like to see how Hamilton is a "shell of himself". You obviously don't look at numbers, regular season, or post season. He was off the charts in the 2010 ALCS. To expect him to redo that is absurd. Otherwise, he has not been too different. He was a damn good player all of 2011.
The key word you used was "Team". This is a team. "marked by devotion to team work, rather than individual acheivement" ("Team" adj. Merriam Webster). That is why this baseball team is the next WS Champs. Calling individuals out doesn't work here.
I'm not calling any individuals out. I'm just saying that the team has been able to take a 3-2 lead even without big contributions from Hamilton, Cruz, and Young. The team wasn't good enough to do that last year. My point is that this is a very balanced team, the success of which isn't dependent on the fortunes of 1 or 2 players.
With respect to your comment about Hamilton, he's a great player who has made a significant contribution this year. But he's 3 for 19 in the World Series with 2 RBIs and 0 HRs. He's admitted that he's injured and is playing at 50%. So I don't see why what I said about him would be controversial. I just think it's amazing that the team is so good as to be able to overcome a struggling Hamilton (and to a lesser extent Young, Cruz, and Wilson).
I agree, RFan. That's the beauty of this team. It's exactly that, a team. Josh didn't fair well in last year's WS either. Actually almost identical in his MVP year. I just thought the "shell of himself" comment was a bit harsh. No biggee.
