What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
I've been a long time follower of this site, and love it. Lot's of great info, insights and thought provoking discussions.
I was wondering if anyone has brought up Washingtons' 'argument' with the blown call at first base, with regard to his not asking either the crew chief, or especially the HP umpire to assist the 1st base umpire. clearly, the HP umpire had the clearer view, and I swear I recall similar plays where the manager went to the HP and/or crew chief to ask them to assist the umpire involved in the play.
Wash for what ever reason just argued with the 1st Base guy.
Washington did not ask Kulpa to ask for help from the other umpires because he didn't believe Kulpa was likely to solicit that help on that type of play. Kulpa said after the game that he wouldn't have gotten any kind of help on the play.
"That's his call, and I argued the fact that he missed the call," Washington said. "The only way you can get help there is if baseball changes its rules."
"Once I said what I had to say and I'm leaving the field, I'm in damage control mode now," Washington said. "Just minimize the damage. Just get off the field. If we would have made the plays, they may have scored one or two, but it would have been 3-0, not 5-0."
