What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
Tim McCarver has lost it! He shows disdain for the Rangers in my opinion. Forcing Ranger fans to turn the sound off and listen to the radio with a delay! Where is Deion ( Prime Time) Sanders and his ice bucket when you need him. If the shock of the ice wouldn't force him into cardiac arrest, I would be for it! He used to be great but no more!!!!! Just wait, If the Cardinals get in, it will be worse!
He looks lake the guy on "Weekend at Bernie's".
I scoff at the accusation of bias. He had many nice things to say about several Rangers players in each game. You're experiencing confirmation bias. McCarver said many times what a great lineup the Rangers have, how dangerous Cruz, Napoli, etc. are, what a great old-style player Kinsler is, lauded the bullpen, praised Wilson's stuff until if fell apart in the 6th, the baserunning savvy of Elvis and the team in general, etc. etc. etc.
If you want to beat up a commentator, beat up A.J. Pierzynski. That dude is an egotistical douche. And theyre supposed to try and cover up who theyre going for...but that dude is straight up Detroit.
Even if you throw out any accusation of bias, he's still lame, boring, monotone, and uptight. It's like someone combined the worse parts of Andy Rooney, Al Gore, and a scout as depicted in the Moneyball trailer. And what makes it EVEN worse is that Francona was killing it and actually bringing out the best in Joe Buck.
McCarver & Buck both have talked up whichever team is winning. When the Rangers were up, they properly pointed out that Verlander was pitching and that it was going to be tough to extend the lead. But they have been decent about giving Rangers props when they are winning and when they are losing and can't muster a hit, they point that out, too. It's just been tough because the Rangers haven't been in total control of too many games. That and also they saw the story line of Martinez and Delmon being hurt and coming up rather large for the Tigers. I do agree that it will be a beating if the Cardinals make it to the WS.
Sour Grapes.....I think not. You can't deny the strength and depth of our line up. He is just stating the obvious facts, which is his job. It is info in the media guide that is sitting in front of him. Stating that Detroit is, time and time again the receiver of bad breaks and unlucky, is a joke and unprofessional for someone of his experience. Three run homers in the 11th are not bad breaks they are talented ball players coming through! Go back and listen to his and Bucks home run calls, and how it is monotone when the rangers homer and exhilarating when the Tiger hit a dinger?
Buck is ALWAYS monotone...I don't think Kojii UeHRara self-combusting on the mound would illicint anything more than a monotone "and Uehara has burst into flames here in the 7th". He seems wholly uninterested in pretty much every sporting event he covers.
McCarver is washed up. He brings nothing insightful or interesting to me. And I agree with Dave that he has repeatedly said Detroit has had bad breaks go against them....which isn't true. Both teams have had their moments of good fortune and moments of not-so-good (Beltre nearly hit a 3-run HR TWICE in the same AB yesterday; ball hitting the bag, two Detroit HRs that cleared the wall by a combined 3 feet all worked pretty well in Detroit's favor yesterday).
But McCarver has given the Rangers their due....I just don't like him because he's uninteresting and provides no insight.
All these National guys appear to me to be auditioning for spot a on Dancing with the Stars....they just seem mostly hype, little substance. All trying to one-up each other. I have the tv on sound off with Nadel on the Radio. I'm a newbie fan by most of you guys standards but every Baseball Season I'm getting more seasoned. This year, I listen to Nadel. He knows this team and he's who I trust and enjoy listening to for Rangers games.
Lets not argue. When we all know who the worst announcer is. Joe Fucking Buck. Zero emotion.. and everything is sponsered by something. "That pitch is a ball high, tonight on Fox....blah blah blah"
God i hate that man. I wish Gus Johnson would call baseball. That man has emotion. He works for fox now apparently.
I didn't notice any bias. And yeah, Buck sucks.
Valid Point had a valid point. What I've noticed, for the most part, is whatever team is in the lead has Buck and McCarver singing that team's praises. When Detroit went up 2-1 yesterday, there was a lot of Detroit love. When the Rangers tied it up, it was pretty even. Once the floodgates opened, it was back to the Tiger love. HOWEVER, there was WAY too much fawning over Verlander in Game 4 (yes, Game 4). Fox constantly threw the camera on him in the dugout and there was constant reference to Verlander pitching Game 5. Part of that is the necessary hype to try to get people to tune in, but when they went so far as to praise Verlander for sitting in the dugout the whole game in support of his teammates, it was going way to far. It never seemed to dawn on them that CJ Wilson had been doing the exact same thing the whole game.
Honestly, though, the best way for the Rangers to get more love is to play more like they did throughout the regular season: better hitting with runners in scoring position and better starting pitching. Get those and there'll be praise aplenty.
