What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
I know that the old timers point to the 50s and 60s as the golden age of baseball. I understand why. Mantle, Koufax, Musial, and a constellation of stars played then.
But after the last month of baseball, I wonder if the sport has been better. The drama of Boston falling off the map and Tampa passing them would be a great story. But compound that with STL running down ATL from that far back. Those two finishes will likely go down as the greatest September flurries in history.
Add the two game 5s to the mix tonight and I think this has been about as exciting as baseball gets in late September and early October. I know that the World Series gets more hype. But for raw excitement and mind-numbing pressure it is hard to beat what we've just seen. And don't forget that the Tigers outlasted the Too Much Moneyball Yankees in the House That Afraud Desecrated.
As tense as the Rangers-Rays series was for me to watch, I have to admit that from a baseball standpoint it was the LEAST exciting of the 4 series. And that is saying a lot.
Can it get any better than this?
I can't remember a more exciting time.
Back in the day, when there was just an East and West Division? It was good. Very good. The creation of 3 divisions, albeit to expansion teams, f'd it up and created the WC. In my mind? It should have been the Yankees and the Rangers. Oh well.
It will be the Brewers and Texas. And my boys will win it in 6.
