What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
I'm thinking the Rays are tired as hell, they've HAD to play there starters every game trying to win every single game and last night had to go 12 innings vs the yankees AA pitching staff. Meanwhile the Rangers have been cruising down the stretch resting starters along the way. I'm not sure if it will make a difference but it's just something to think about vs momentum.
It is certainly something to think about. And I will certainly think about it. And while I'm thinking about it I think we should all think how lucky we are to have BBTIA. I think without it most of us wouldn't think at all--just go with the flow--you know the drive by media slants on all things sports. So I guess what I'm saying is I am thinking how lucky we are. And I'm thinking you should think likewise. But seriously guys-some of you think too much. I think I need to go because I think you think I've gone on too long. But to your point Martin-we do need to think about it but I think we shouldn't think about it too long. That's just what I think-others might think differently. I think some of you will get upset at this post. I think some of you are smart enough to realize what it is. At least I THINK you are.
I'll think about that
I see you don't think much.
Me thinks he thinks he is the Thinker and is posing
There are two arguments one could make, methinks. One, the team that's been fighting to survive will be tired & emotionally drained, having over-taxed their players during that process of "do or die."
Two, the team that rests its starters and cruises into the playoffs will be at an emotional disadvantage, since the other team will already be in the mindset of putting it all on the line every night.
Which do you think is more persuasive?
In my mind, I think the latter is a real problem, but to counter it I'd add that Texas also *is* going into the playoffs on a roll, with its offense clicking as well as it has all season.
I expect the series will be very close, with a bunch of good games. I agree with you guys that it would have been preferable to play Boston... but at least we get home field. That will be a big emotional boost.
Me thinks the lady doth protest too much...
I think there's a key difference between what Wash did and Charlie Manuel did. Wash was still playing games to win, because regardless of what he said in the media, we wanted and obtained home field advantage.
Resting the players for that one game against King Felix after clinching was totally reasonable to do, to give a slight breather for everyone's legs. And it was a good opportunity to see just how good our prospects were, and yikes they were good. If you'll notice, the next day it was the standard crew out there.
With the exception of a few bullpen let's see what we have games, we've not been playing the game that differently.
The real teams coasting into the playoffs here are the Yanks and Phillies.
Me thinks that we've overused "me thinks" in this thread...
Didn't say coasting I said crusing as in they were on a roll, the Rangers have fresher guys who are as hot as they'll ever be. Meanwhile Tampa just got in and were pretty hungover this morning.
I guess what I'm trying to say is the Rangers are ready and the Rays might get hit in the mouth when they play on Friday.
Some of the guys in Tampa may be running on fumes, but momentum can carry even guys in that condition a pretty long way. Do not underestimate the momentum they've been building up all month, and which finally bubbled over last night.
The Giants clawed into the playoffs last year and we saw where that got them, so this'll be a good challenge for us. I think the Yanks coasting in will screw them over against the Tigers. On the other hand, the winner of that should still have a tough fight.
Hey Martin' I don't think hitting someone in the mouth is legal in baseball.
I think game one will be quite telling. Rangers lose it and I think it will be tough to win the series. That said, I hope TB is too tired to perform well in game one as the OP stated.
Oh no i've gone cross-eyed.
