What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
Let's say going into our final three games Texas has already clinched the division but the Angels and Boston (or TB (or all 3)) are fighting for the wildcard. Would you rather the Rangers win all three if it means the ALEast gets the wild card?
(Note: the question isn't "should the Rangers tank or not?" it's "What would you as a fan prefer?")
Well rite now it looks like the Angels are tanking. I'd rather face red sox then the Rays but I'd like to see the red sox fail.
That's a moot question, Angels are not going to be in contention for a WC spot.
Right now they are closer to the wild card than to the division, does "not going to be in contention for a WC spot" mean the Rangers have already clinched?
I have no personal investment in who wins the AL Wild Card as the odds point to us most likely facing the Yankees without homefield advantage for the ALDS, but I would absolutely love to see the Red Sox fall to the surging Rays. I could've sworn the Red Sox were a unanimous favorite to face the Phillies in the 2011 World Series, now it looks like they'll have to put up a fight just to make the playoffs. Also, I sure am glad the Rangers didn't go "all-in" for Carl Crawford, he's had a disapointing season to say the least ... whereas Adrian Beltre has arguably been the Rangers' 2011 team MVP.
@Mike G. - It would be a very tough arguement on the Adrian Beltre as team MVP front...but I do agree that he was a much better acquisition than "Hot Carl" Crawford.
Rangers magic number is 9, to finish ahead of Detroit. That gives them home field in rd 1 and perhaps the struggling Red Sox. To me, that's the priority, to get those 9. If you can then tank a game or two afterwards, no problem ....but first things first.
Looks like Washington said he's going to rest key players if and when the Rangers clinch the division.
Give me a rested team heading into the playoffs and I feel confidant going up against any team in the AL.
