What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
A fumble by Romo costs the Boys 3 points and then the interception he threw gave the Jets 3. Tony Romo can throw but is too much of a bonehead to be a good QB in the NFL. Put in Jon Kitna. Shoot, put the season in the tank so we can get Andrew Luck. Anything but another season of Tony Romo costing us game after game trying to be cute.
"Celebrity" quarterback Tony Romo. I love that Rick Gosselin designation. Not "championship" quarterback, or "star" quarterback, but "CELEBRITY" quarterback Tony Romo. Perfect. He is a highly paid celebrity and not much more.
Ignorant statement Skeletor.
Tony Romo is a top 10 NFL QB without a question. The cowboys cannot blame their losing on their QB. Giving up 27 points to a crap offense should be the focal point.
I wouldn't normally even respond to a Cowboy post on here... But Rob Ryan is no Defensive genius. Romo DID make stupid decisions, and the GM needs to fire himself! Jimmy Johnson could have won 5 straight Super Bowls here. BUT, over one beer at a table, Jimmy not asking him to sit with his "Knights of the Round Table", Jerry killed the goose that layed the golden egg. Foolish pride. One thing J.D. does not possess, thank God!
Ignorant? I looked like freaking Nostradamus when before the two min warning I told everyone that Romo was going to find another way to cost us this game. In key, clutch moments, he always chokes it a way. Now do I really want Kitna? No. But I do want Tony out the door. Jerry should make an offer to the Pats for Ryan Mallett and just let the rebuilding commence. So tired of Tony Romo.
Mallett is an idiot, and in legal trouble again. But his (Jones) lack of getting future QB behind Romo does concern me. My better half is a football (Cowboy) nut, much like me and the Rangers. Stephen McGhee is not your answer long term. The Cowboys could have taken Andy Dalton. And a few years ago, could've gotten Chris Johnson @ RB. But Jerry had to go Arkansas(s). Want a do-over on that?
Romo is not the problem Jerry jones is and that is all I'm going to say about the cowboys.
"Jerry killed the goose that laid the golden egg"
That and that little thing called the salary cap that was instituted in 1994 following B2B Super Bowl victories for the Cowboys (not a coincidence)...
He was in favor of and voted for it. And Jimmy could have continued to win for several years with the talent we had. Switzer? Really? Chan Gailey? Really? Jones just seems to me to be in the "business" for the almighty buck, not winning. How long can he hang his hat on those SB wins? We're going on two decades ago. My daughter is now 15 and has never seen a SB Champion Couwboys team. This is the longest stretch the franchise has ever went w/o a SB appearance.
Romo's no Troy. Even if he were, though, it wouldn't matter as long as the defense can't stop the other team from scoring. Joe Montana didn't lead the 49ers to 37 Super Bowls with a bad defense complementing his offensive juggernaut.
Who is Troy besides Troy aikman?!? You gotta stop comparing every qb with a star on his helmet to troy. At least romo is no freaking drew bledsoe
So for the second week in a row, we've got a non-baseball related thread gaining some serious legs. Last week the Aggies, Baylor and the Big 12 (oh wait, that number's changing by the hour) and this week it's Tony Romo and the Cowboys.First off a disclaimer: I'm old enough to remember watching Don Meredith quarterback the Cowboys in the Cotton Bowl and learned to truly appreciate the team constructed by Tom Landry, Tex Schramm, Gil Brandt and an owner named Clint Murchison who didn't interfere. So I've seen plenty of Cowboy games, intrigue, Super Bowl wins, quarterback controversies, etc.But the day that Jerry Jones fired Tom Landry turned out to be the darkest hour in franchise history, not because Landry didn't need to go (he did) but by the way he did it. This should have been a fire-alarm-in-the-night wake up call for Cowboy fans.Jerry Jones was going to run the team his way without listening to people smarter than him, which on football matters is just about everyone.Jughead Jerry Jones has driven into the ditch the team I grew up following and being a big fan of. Without a doubt he's the worst GM in the league and one of the worst in league history. He knows how to make money, obviously, but he knows nothing about how to acquire talent, draft talent or hire the right people.Jason Garrett, I believe, will be a successful head coach but it won't be with the Cowboys. Jughead Jerry will get rid of him either this year or next. So, after a long-winded diatribe here's the point: Since Jughead Jerry has ruined the football team I have been a big fan of for most of my life, anything that gives him a stomach ache is just fine by me.
My defense didn't give up 27 points. 7 were on a blocked punt and the last 3 we didn't give an inch after the interception.
@Martin: You're right, he's no Bledsoe. Seriously though, the point of my comparison was to suggest that Romo's not that great. There are worse QBs, to be sure, but I don't see the Cowboys winning the trophy with Romo at the helm.
You don't need an elite qb to win a SB. Eli dumbface manning won a SB with elite passrush. On another note did anyone catch the whopping houston put on the colts??
@Martin: you're right, you don't need an elite QB. But you probably need one that's better than Romo. That said, Romo's far from the biggest problem with the Cowboys.
Live by the Romo, die by the Romo. That's really it. I mean, who in their right mind really believes Kitna or McGee are realistic alternatives? If he doesn't learn from this, he never will. Now, having said that, I actually left yesterday's game feeling somewhat positive. That defense was Rob Ryan genius. The offensive line didn't make me hurl. The passing game was more than passable. Dez and Miles showed flashes of being a pretty good receiving combo. I hate that the Cowboys lost, but this could be the kind of early-season challenge they need. If you got reserve guys stepping up and doing the job, that's as good a sign as any that this is no longer the Wade Phillips era.
Kitna's obviously on the decline and McGee, while he was great in college, needs more experience, and a good step up, before he's worthy of being a 1st string QB. Obviously, for the time being, Romo's the best bet.
Yesterday you saw how the Colts just died without Manning. Obviously he's incredibly crucial to them. I think the Cowboys would do better than that without Romo, but I don't see them going all the way this year with him, much less with Kitna or McGee. I'd be happy to be proven wrong, though. We could always use another championship in Texas.
You guys need to shut the fuck up. His presence in the pocket is incredible and he's a top 5 quarterback. If jerry jones would start surrounding him with winners then he would win the Super Bowl.
Its a crappy situation, but for some of you I think you all need some perspective... We've changed coaches 3 times since Parcells. We've changed 3 offenseive and 4 defensive coordinators. We've changed RBs, linemen, WRs, line backers, kickers, you name it. What is the ONE constant in all of this.... Tony Romo. Look there is no question that Romo is or isnt good. If you think Romo is not good, go try out for the nfl get laughed at and put you nuts in a bear trap... Romo can play. The problem is 2 things. Lack of leadership and lack of winning mentality. when i say lack of leadership i'm not bashing Romo for not being a leader; i could care less who leads the cowboys. Let it be Brooking, Ware, Witten, Beuhler I dont give a flying F***. By lack of leadership i mean Romo has not had any guidance or assistance with himself. Parcells groomed him and gave him a list of 50 things to NEVER do as a QB. i'm certain he's broken almost all 50. Uncle Wade didnt lead him, and Garrett as an OC hasnt lead him either. Nobody but Parcells curbed the "gunslinger" Romo for the most part. He'd let him play his game and make certain gunslingerish calls, but only if they were logical and intellligent. Wade and Garret have let him run around like the energize bunny on crack beating off to a Brett Favre poster. Come on man!
Secondly, Romo is not a winner. i'm sorry he's just not. He can never win the big game. One playoff game? sorry thats not good enough for the 7+ yrs (if you count him sitting with a clip board) he's had in the nfl. He's way too laissez faire when they lose. he should be throwing s*** angry and pushing camera's up out of his face. be humble and celebrate your victories. dont make excuses for your losses. Until then Romo and the Cowboys in general will never get where they want to be. I dont think he's gonna get there. as sad as it it... it IS time for a change.
@dcaggie06: Pretty much right on. Props.
@Pryor: Top 5 in what? The NFL? Don't make me laugh. Top 5 in Texas, maybe.
I can't wait to come back and read this thread after they rip of 5 straight and Romo has a 112 rating and see what you are all saying then. Romo is no Danny White.
That's right he is no Danny White....who lead the Cowboys to 3 straight NFC championships.
What do you want them to do? Trade romo for a 2nd round pick and start mcgee? tank the season and draft andrew luck and try to win with a rookie qb?
