What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
I believe I heard buster olney talking about the reds having to trade votto to let Alonso play since Alonso is awful in the OF and at 3rd base. I know we should give Moreland a chance but you have a chance to grab a young superstar slugger before he hits FA. Moreland could be used as part of the package to aquire votto.
Maybe MorelandSardinasOltBeltreAnd a lower pitching prospect gets it done
None of that makes any sense. To me anyway. He is not a FA til 2014, very productive, and you're not going to trade any of those guys now w/o every one of 'em clearing waivers.
If they want to move him in the winter? You can bet the Yanks and Red Sox are most likely out of the mix. Your proposed trade? I won't even comment on. The free agent 1st baseman market will be a strong one this winter. Mil or St. will be the players on him, should they lose AP or PF to FA.
He is a good player, and you might well have hit on something, but I doubt it. Mitchy the kid has some real upside, cheap, and under control for some time.
We'll see though. I'll concede if I am wrong when the time comes. BUT, I'd bet Moreland will be a 30 plus HR guy in a year or two. A-Gon, Hafner, etc. Ring a bell?
Sorry I didn't make it clear yeah I'm talking about an off season acquisition.
Vottos contract is not cheap and the Reds might go back to rebuildingish kind of mode with Mil looking like a future power house. Alonso can't play any other position other then first and votto WON'T play anything other then first. The Reds will get much more by trading votto then Alonso.
Also Morelands potential is not even close to what Votto has Actually done in the big leagues.
I like your eye for talent. And Moreland is no Votto, and may well never be.
That said, the Brewers will lose Prince to FA. If Doug has the chance to sign a very productive 1B guy like Votto w/o paying tons of money to a guy like Fielder who will be nothing more than a DH in a few years?
Where Prince goes? IDK. But it won't be here, nor Votto. BUT, if JD does something to make that happen. I have no choice but to buy in.
Not knocking your desire. Just saying our focus will be on C.J. and likely another FA SP and RH CF. But I'd turn down Votto like a hot blonde at 2 A.M. at the bar!
Votto is actually younger and better, in my mind, than PF or AP. No way they move him for a small deal like you proposed.
I would take an incredible amount of prospects for the 2010 NL MVP who is having a similar year, in terms of production, this season. Probably like Perez, Scheppers, Olt, Profar, and a couple younger guys with high ceilings. Although he would put up some huge numbers in RBiA, it's just not worth it. Also, from what I understand is that he is a complete dick. I remember in the all star game last season when Marlon Byrd made that nice play late in the game to get Ortiz out at 2b, and Votto refused to give him a high-five after the game because "he is our rival and I hate the Cubs".
Again, let's not get carried away here. The Rangers have one of the best lineups in all of baseball, in my opinion THE best when everyone is healthy which hasn't happened very often this year. So I ask, what the heck is the point of adding another big bat to the lineup when it would either cost of you lots of prospects and/or lots of money. Unless you want the Rangers to go back to the Rangers of old, you absolutely cannot give up any kind of top pitching prospects for a first basemen, let me repeat that...FIRST BASEMEN. That is the easiest position to fill in all of baseball. We have 3 guys on our team that are capable of playing first so we do not need to give up the farm or pay tons of money for a first basemen when that money can be spent on a pitcher. Lets get our priorities straight here.
No, Votto is not available. There is no way the Reds trade a perennial MVP candidate under their control for 3 more years so that they can play an inferior guy at 1B.
But I'd turn down Votto like a hot blonde at 2 A.M. at the bar!So you're saying that maybe, just maybe if you booz up enough, the deal could be done?
Really? You pass up all the valid points I make and pick the one joke I made?
Thanks for your insightful sports point, "Bucky".
Why would the Rangers be looking for a CF when they have Martin on the way?
Martin is on the way. But not sure anyone is convinced he is MLB ready. Small sample thus far. Or seems to think it will be Hamilton, Martin, and Cruz w/ Gentry off the bench. Murphy is likely gone, per the word I get. Chavez will have some good offers. You can't keep a predominantly LH OF. I think, as do several others, that you get a FA RH CF, as well as pitching, depending on what happens with C.J. And even if he stays, shore up the rotation. I contend that Perez and Ramirez are not too far away, but I'll have to see 'em in ST to decide. And Ross is going to move up rapidly.
The FA RH CF list isn't too pretty though. Mostly older guys. I do like Gentry roaming CF. If he could just hit .280 or better? And Martin will be good. I just need to see it more.
Per the word you get?

Tell us more. I'm laughing my ass off at your comments now. Keep posting. Go for 100 posts in one day. You have til midnight. You can do it! At latest count you have 43 posts today. YOU CAN DO IT!!
LMFAO! Keep counting buddy! You might just learn something.
Gentry is a perfect fit as the 4th/5th OF RHH CF pinch runner for this team.I never said dont resign CJ i hope the Rangers do. However if your not going to get a legit number one starter why stall on developing our young starters like Feliz or Ogando? If you sign CJ and a number 3 what does that do? CJ Harrison FA Holland Colby With starting pitching id rather go with what we have in house. Lets fast forward two years from now MY Ian Cruz Hamilton might be gone where are you going to replace those guys offense? Youre telling me you would rather hope Moreland pans out to and avrage to above average first baseman instead of going with an MVP caliber type player in Votto? Two years from now any and all of those prospects could become busts and what is the need for Olt Sheppers (highest chance of becoming a bust) Beltre and Sardinas with all the guys on the ML team blocking them?
Youre right the Reds might not make him available but if he were to become available you wouldnt want JD to pounce all over it??
I just don't think it is realistic, bro. No offense. JD will move on a good deal when available. I do know this; Perez, Ramirez, and de lo Santos are the real deal and on their way. Hide and watch.
Ricki in ft worth I've have learned something. I've learned you're a compulsive poster and an idiot.
@fanAnd you're posts are so interesting and informing. -____-
RickyMy dude I never said trade any of those three. I have my list of untouchables as well and those prospects I included are not on my list.
Anyone who says they know what prospects will pan out and which ones won't is a is either too arrogant for words or a complete moron. I don't have any patience for either, so I'll take those words for what they're worth, not much.
The Reds aren't going to shop Joey Votto but they'll at least listen to trade inquiries this winter. Cincinnati could come back with Votto for one more year at $9.5MM and play Yonder Alonso in left field but Votto's salary rises to $17MM in 2013 and Alonso's best position is first base. Reds owner Bob Castellini won't want to trade Votto, just as he didn't want to deal veterans at the deadline. However, the Reds would be looking at much more value for Votto at two years away from free agency rather than one year away.
This from Ken Rosenthal about a week after I originally posted.
I think at this point the Rangers would trade Moreland for an old shoe and a book of prayers, but Votto isn't coming to here.
