What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
Beating the Angels two nights in a row. It has to hurt LAA that they had a chance to win and gain a game last night but Carp slaps them down for the 2nd time in two nights. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2011_08_31_anamlb_seamlb_1&mode=wrap
His shot on Monday was a monster.http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2011_08_31_anamlb_seamlb_1&mode=wrap
Keep on frustrating them (but not us), Mike!
Honorable mention to Dustin Ackley.
Angels won the night before last. That's the second time the Angels have had a tough time with the Mariners. They play them again in a few days or next week. Even though the Angels have an easier schedule by record, they don't play that well inside the division.
Santana versus Furbush tonight. Not good. Hope that pitching on 3 days rest in Texas comes back to bite Scoscia in the arse. Hopefully the Mariners' bats come to life, and Furbush finds lightning in a bottle. Hope the Texas bats come to life as well. C.J. versus Nieman tonight. Should be a good game.
Per Jamey Newberg:
The Orioles, as expected, have claimed righthander Pedro Strop on waivers to complete yesterday's Mike Gonzalez trade.
Texas has also outrighted infielder Omar Quintanilla off the roster, and with the two opened spots on the 40-man roster, the club purchased the contracts of Round Rock righthander Merkin Valdez and infielder Esteban German. Adrian Beltre and Andres Blanco have been activated.
Valdez, who has big league experience with the Giants and Blue Jays, has a huge fastball and chronic command issues. Signed to a deal with AAA Round Rock late in July, the 29-year-old had fanned 14 and walked just five in 15.1 Express innings, pitching in late relief.
Looking at LAA with a fair an eye as possible, we have to acknowledge that their rotation is very very good, with 3 guys who are probably better or as good as our best guy. They have a couple of veterans who can punish you on occasion in Abreu, Hunter and Wells, and a good hitter in Kendrick. Callaspo and Aybar are underrated players who are probably better than they seem on paper, and then they have some talented kids in Trumbo, Bourjos, and Trout. So overall, they have a stellar rotation & a patchwork offense that can sneak up on you. The real problem with their team is the bullpen.
So they aren't as bad as everyone around here keeps saying they are.
Nope. Quite the contrary. Their farm system may not be as stocked, and yes they have some aging players, but they are still a formidable opponent. If they were to make a few key additions? They could really be scary. I still believe we, overall, are the better team of the two.
Somebody needs to tell the Dudes over at Halo's Heaven that the Angel's recent inability to win 2 in a 3 game series MAY effect their playoff chances slightly. Playoff teams don't go to Seattle and only come back with 1 win.
But geez, I hope it doesn't come down to those final 3 games with their pitching. Not good for the blood pressure.
They still have to play 'em tonight too.
@TexPantango the folks over there can't even get the elimination number right. @WWJD not sure about that Rotation being clearly better but the top 1 is better than our top 1 and the top three is better than our top three. They can't hit good pitching see how they struggle with Seattle and to some extent Oakland. This lead will swell over the next week even with playing Boston again. Boston had just come off a slump and the Rangers had just come off playing lights out. Anyway I just don't feel like the Angels have the horsepower to close the gap. I think they play over their heads.
Good news is Beltre will be in the line-up tonight. Scooby should like the opposing pitcher, Niemann, as he is a Rice product. Anxious to see the full line up.
