What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
I always thought Feldman's one season was a fluke. Still not convinced it wasn't. It produced a nice, big contract for him. But tonight, he was awesome. They all were. If he (Scooter) keeps the this up? I'll be serving crow for Thanksgiving. And don't dismiss the boys in relief. That, my friends is a playoff team.
Yeah I was in the same boat and figured he was probably not the same pitcher he was in '09 but he looked fantastic tonight. he sure was mowing 'em down. very pleasantly surprised and excited to have him in the pen.
Personally, I thought the offense could have done a little better. Bases loaded twice with one out and no runs produced from either of those situations.
I think you can chalk the run disparity up to good pitching. As for Scott Feldman's performance, his relief outing this year has not led me to believe that this trend is going to continue. Not to mention, Ron Washington made it very clear that this was only a spot start. I would like to see him pitch anyway but in a six-man rotation. I think it is probably the Rangers are considering and I am sure it is a good idea.
I also would like to see a 6-man rotation. Give all the guys a bit of rest. Or...allow Feldman to spot start for each one of them, so everyone misses a rotation. It would be hard for Feldman to be worse than what Lewis / Ogando / Harrison have offered in their most recent efforts.
I have never been sold on Feldman, but he has had his moments. If he has matured enough to the point that he can be consistent, then he is a good option. Last night his control and command were awesome. He thew what he wanted, where he wanted, when he wanted. That was nice to see. He allowed only two singles and one walk in 6 IP. He is going back to the pen, but he will continue to spot start for others to get rest. He'll likely start 3 or 4 more times this year (September). I hope he does well in those outings, giving us yet another option, should someone go down or implode.
Feldman should continue to get spot starts to rest Ogando, Lewis, and Holland, but they should not use a 6 man rotation. Our lead is still too small to not have CJ pitching every 5th game.
I've got to think Ogando will need a spot start.. That or we 6 man rotation and everybody gets an extra day, maybe keeping CJ going every 5th day no matter what if that's what he wants.
You're correct Tex. The Rangers have already stated that no starting pitcher will keep his normal rotation, with the exception of C.J. and possibly Holland. The other three will get rest from spot starts, most likely from Scooter.
Mark Hamburger is also a possibility for a spot start though Scooter is most likely. I think with Ogando's performance last night, it is almost certain that his next start will be skipped. Wash obviously had no confidence in him tonight and I expect that announcement any second now.
