What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
Ok, I'm going to be perfectly honest here, because I may be missing something. Why does the team not like Endy Chavez all that much? I understand that his OBP isn't stellar, but its still greater than David Murphy's and it certainly seems like he gets a really bad rap from the commentators and sports writers. The man is hitting .320 for goodness sake. Is there a tool that he just doesn't have or something? .990 fielding percentage, with four errors on the year in 98 total chances. Why does everyone seem to think that this guy isn't the real deal? Is 42 Games not a good enough sample size?
I think the club is trying to protect his knee by not playing him too much. Also, Washington is loyal to his players to a fault and Murphy is one of his guys. Since Murphy got the big hit yesterday, he probably is giving him a reward by playing hijm tonight.
I agree with you about Chavez being a big asset to us. I think that he is the best surprise of the year for us, not counting Tatiyana.
@DavidOgando was a VERY nice surprise too... and don't forget Harrison.
@AVanceI agree that Chavez deserves more playing time
Wash doesnt hate anybody. trust me on that. if there was anybody on this team at all he had a reason to hate it would be CJ for the infamous "ball flip" incident, and he still not only stuck with him but game him a chance to start. not enough can say about the cajones of Ron Washington and his style sometimes. Hey may not have the pizzaz or the style, but he's so Joe Maddon its not even funny. He absolutely LOVES each and everyone of his player down to the deepest core of his heart. That is his family.
As far as Endy goes, its a combination of maintaining his health, and Ron is notorious for playing the hotter hand, and besides YT, and Naps, few have had a hotter hand than Murph lately... granted he is starting to fall back to earth. so dont be surprised to see some more Endy and hopefully some more gorgeious Endy bunts and a surprise smack yard.... yeah
sorry to double post, i know i'm notorious for it, blame the adhd on the incapabiity to form a complete though.... but i reallly think one thing not being considered by anybody when it comes to CJ resigning, is Ron Washington. CJ respects him, they work well together, and he creates an atmosphere for the players thats not only fun, but competitive and winning baseball. And each player knows no matter how bad they might be slumping.... Wash is there to offer a hug... even if it is just to ease the internal tension and make you laugh (ask Kinsler) i think Ron Washington is our secret weapon in resigning CJ, and i think it gets done. ok.... i'm done now :)
Murph is hitting 148 this month
hence the falling back to earth remark. July, he was one of our better hitters again
Even after endy, there are probably three outfielders in the minors that would get better results than murphy. Guess were hoping he can get back to being close to what he was last season. Which IMO was still just average. And he does battle but, thats about the best thing I can say about him this season.
I think everyone can agree that Endy has been fantastic this season. The sad thing about it is that if Julio Borbon had at least been mediocre, we probably never would have gotten the chance to see just how much Chavez had to offer at the big league level. That being said, I think that the only thing that makes the club apprehensive to jumping fully on board with Chavez is that they don't really see him as a long-term option for that 3rd outfielder spot. That's not to say that Murphy is the answer either. But I don't think any of us expect Chazev to continue playing at this level. God, I hope we are wrong.
