What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
Starting Mon., the Rangers play 6 against Sea. and Oak. and 4 against LAA. LAA has 6 against NYY and Toronto and 4 against the Rangers. Looks like the Rangers will miss Hernandez and Gio Gonzalez.
The Rangers need to build up some kind of lead because after this 10 games, LAA has an 18 game stretch that includes 10 games against Baltimore and Sea. If the Rangers don't pull away a bit in the next two weeks, it's probably going to be close at least through mid-Sept. The Rangers have a brutal schedule in late Aug. and early Sept., so it wouldn't be a shock if LAA gains ground or takes over first during that period. Fortunately, the Rangers finish up with a bunch of games against the AL West.
Bottom line: We need a win streak now or else we'll have to settle in for some heartburn down the stretch.
Most divisional titles come down to the stretch run. Even if we build a 4 or 5 game lead over the next couple weeks, I still think it will come down to the last couple weeks. I actually think the increased pressure will be good for us (assuming we prevail). It will certainly be entertaining and willl likely draw more national attention.
But to your point, yes, we need to make hay while the sun shines.
In this 10 games, the Rangers expanded their lead from 1 to 6 and probably pretty much made it impossible for the Angels to catch up. I don't think we could've asked for a better result.
Yep. I saw somewhere Rangers increase their likelihood to win the division from 69% to 96% (this was before last night, so I'm sure it has dropped a little). That's a major swing....have to keep up the momentum against Chicago so they can enter that tough stretch with confidence.
