What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
Maybe I'm reading too much into it but I have been saying all year that this team is missing something (aside from bullpen help!) and I think I figured it out! The team this year hasn't seemed to have as much of a swagger about it as it did last year. Has anyone else noticed? It's also had built in excuses that weren't there last year! Josh can't see during day games...it's turf, so everyone needs to rest...on and on and on. Maybe getting Adrian back healthy along with those trades to help sure up the bullpen will help? Also, maybe being in an actual race this year into August will help to get it back? I don't know tho? Thoughts?
Model T, i think you need to take the Hot Tub Time Machine back to..... this weekend! This team's got plenty of swagger now since the completion of the trade deadline. Upcoming sweep in your home town (detroit....model T...get it?) should give YOU a needed boost of confidence.
Dc...was rain the excuse tonight? Just askin...
Not at all, Boesch had a great at bat and Adams missed his spot with the slider by a lot, but it doesn't necessarily mean that the Rangers will go undefeated from now on.
At least be a bit realistic.
stfudg....I agree with everything you said...I guess my point about tonight is that I hope we don't hear any excuses except that Colby was bad, Adams made a bad pitch and Boesch did a great job to make him pay. It just seems like there have been a lot excuses this year and a lack of swagger like there was last year. This team won a ton of 1 run games and games late last year and I think that had to do with that confidence or swagger, knowing they would get it done. They haven't been getting the job done late in ballgames this year, period. They went out and fixed part of the problem with the additions to the bullpen....but is that enough? Will they regain whatever they had last year? This team hasn't played to it's potential yet. Or maybe it has and we are all giving them too much credit? Who knows? I do expect them to win the division, I know that much. And yes, I know they aren't going undefeated from now on....would be freakin sweet tho! Just some thoughts and observations of mine. I hope I'm wrong cuz this is an awesome team when they are clicking. Let's see Harrison bring it tomorrow
nah, that game was a few bad calls by Wash and one bad pitch. it takes grit and swagger to comeback like they did, albeit as brief as it was. when one of your better pitchers goes out there and throws meatballs for 4 innings it can be disheartening. But this team refused to quit. even into the 9th. thats one thing you can say about this team under Ron Washington. You may never see perfect baseball, but you'll always see a team on the field you cant count out at any time.
I totally understand what you are saying about grit and swagger and the ability to come back in last nights game and this team refusing to quit under Ron. Having said that, I could make an argument that last nights game is more demoralizing than anything. I was lucky enough to play baseball at a pretty high level and I can tell you from experience those are the tougher games, the games were you come back...can tie it late, only to go onto lose it late. There are no moral victories. Also, what about the games that they have lost when leading? They have lost some pretty big leads this year as well as some small ones but you can't say this team is full of grit and swagger for coming back and tying one game last night without thinking about the many they have blown. If you want to point fingers at the bullpen, that's fine...I hope we fixed it. But the roster is 1-25, not 1-9....How about the leads that the starters have been handed this year and then some how those games are blown? I'm not going to put in here the teams record when trailing or tied late in games or their record in 1 run games this year compared to last year b/c most everyone I think has been beaten to death by them but I think that might be a telling sign. You also said we may not see perfect baseball... a teams swagger is their ability to KNOW they will get it done, if they aren't playing perfect baseball...fielding balls that should be fielded, making the correct throws when they need to be made, making the key pitch and making that key hit.... how do they have that confidence to get it done? This team limited it's mistakes last year and they haven't done that this year. I brought this post up even forgetting that Wash and Nolan have already called out one player for his lack of swagger/confidence...so there has to be something to it. I do have a ton of confidence in this team and maybe I expect too much from them, b/c I do see how good they are when they are playing good baseball they might be the best team in the game...I just haven't seen that team this year...I hope it shows up by late August/September and October/November when it really matters most...sorry for the novel long post haha
