What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
Why does everyone seem to want to overpay for 2-months of Bell, or for Adams, Clippard, Bailey, Nunez or other guys who have been good either in the NL or (in Bailey's case) a major pitcher's park, when a guy like Uehara is out there for probably half the price?
What, exactly, is not to like about Koji?
Here are his numbers:
155.2 career IP, 131 hits, 25 BBs, 162 Ks (that's a 6.42 K/BB ratio), 1.00 WHIP, 3.06 career ERA in the AL East, 2.96 FIP, 3.36 xFIP.
He's a 36-year-old setup man with a short track record who can't possibly command too much in prospect cost in a market with 5 or 6 bigger RP names out there. And he's under team control for 2012 at a reasonable $4mil, with a reasonable chance of getting Type A or B comp back for the 2013 draft.
Why, exactly, shouldn't Koji be target #1 for the Rangers at the moment?
Not to mention he has closing experience and can backup Feliz/close in his place if Feliz has pitched a few days in a row. He's not a mere late-inning setup guy like a Jim Johnson. He has been in the pressure situation of closing. We do need a backup closer and Lowe is too erratic.
And he's accustomed to pitching in a hitter's park. I agree with you guys on this one.
Yep, Pablo and I were all over Koji as a target in the comments section of Pras's article from Monday - "Rangers Trade Targets: The Relievers".
Pablo and I think something along the lines of Scheppers, CD, Sardinas, E. Beltre, and Luke Jackson and/or possibly Wieland should net both Uehara and Beltran.
I feel like that haul for those prospects would be pretty good, considering the marketplace and the Rangers overall team needs.
