Forum > Johan Santana
Gee I dunno - maybe because he is owed the following:
2011: $22.5 million.
2012: $24.0 million.
2013: $25.5 million.
2014: $25.0 million club option w/ $5.5 million buyout
That would be a minimum of $65MM over the next 2.5 seasons.
Or maybe it is because of this little diddy:

Here are some excerpts:
"Because of the nature of Johan Santana’s shoulder injury and the operation to repair it, the Mets cannot expect him to return to his normal pitching capabilities until late next season at best, and more likely not until 2012, according to an expert on shoulder injuries."
"Under the best circumstances, the procedure to repair the tear is done arthroscopically, which has an overwhelmingly high rate of success for pitchers to return to full strength, Levitz said."
"But the location of Santana’s tear was difficult to reach with an arthroscope, so the surgeon, Dr. David Altchek, the Mets’ team physician, had to make an incision in the area of the tear. That causes scar tissue, which can affect the length of a pitcher’s rehabilitation and his range of motion, Levitz said."
"“If you can’t get to it, you have to open it up, and it’s less desirable when it’s done that way,” Levitz said. “Anytime you open the shoulder, you have to make cuts in the tissue, and that causes scarring. So it does make you worry a little more, but you still expect him to do fairly well.”"
So to answer your question - no one is asking about him because he is an extremely risky and expensive proposition, and would cost prospects to boot! Just another in a long line of notoriously bad Mets contracts - they can have all they want of that.

Why is no one after this guy? He seems to be pitching well in his rehab assignments and some believe he'll be back in the majors in 30 days. If 100% wouldn't Santana be one of the best pitchers available?
