Forum > Its Time....????

So as much as we (especially myself) got into the effect of MY's trade demand shenanigans and how they would effect the on going season, he has far exceeded expectations, and is having one of his best years if not THE best year he's ever had. Yes, the HRs are down, but we can possibly anticipate those will increase once the jet stream and the summer air starts makin it do what it do like it usually does during this time of the year and later. Now i'll will still say that i would prefer that MY stay at DH and create more consistency in the lineups. I know players need rest, but MY plays in the field at a higher than normal rate that just "resting players" due to his ego. However right now i'm putting that all aside, and i'm saying this...

Its time for Michael Young to seriously be considered a candidate for the AL MVP. now i know A Gon, and Bautista are the favorites, but besides the HRs MY is putting up better numbers and his team is winning as opposed to Bautista's Blue Jays. When it comes to intangibles MY leads them all in my opinon. How many players can play all the positions he does ant a somewhat consistent basis and keep up the numbers that he has thus far. I know with A Gon putting put the numbers he is, and the fact he plays for a "favored" team (Red Sox) its gonna be a steep hill to climb, but does anyone else think that MY has a shot at winning, the AL MVP, or at least deserves votes. And if not, what's it going to take to put MY over the top? More HRs? or is it impossible....

Michael Young is having a good season, a season better than I expected he would have.

Michael Young is not having anything remotely close to an AL MVP-caliber season. He's not putting up better numbers, he doesn't get anything more than a marginal bounce off his "flexibility" (83 of his 98 games played this season have been at 1B/DH), and the intangibles mean virtually nothing.

The only possible way you could even begin to construct an argument for Young would be if you required that the MVP came from a playoff-contending team ... and, in that case, A-Gon still crushes him.

You're probably right. just skewing things because nobody really expected this out of MY. However as you yourself have stated on multiple times, batting numbers are down across the board EVERYWHERE, i checked out pretty much every team in the AL and very few players (non pitching wise) stand out besides A Gon and Bautista. I think this year you're going to see a AL MVP with numbers typically lower than you'd expect. I just think MY might deserve a few votes. The last couple of years (granted this is mainly CY young i'm citing, theyve been willing to award the player they feel best deserves it despite team/record etc ie Grienke, King Felix last year. So i felt he might have a shot. But as I stated in my OP its a STEEP uphill climb to catch A Gon

I can't look at the AL stats and suggest that anyone, even AGon, can make a reasonable case for being named MVP over Bautista. It's a clear runaway, to me.

Is this a bit? Surely this is a bit.

There is no "you're probably right" about it. Joey is right. I'm with FT, I hope this is a bit, b/c nobody has this much time to waste. I will now proceed to post a "Why Harrison should be considered for Cy Young" thread on the internet. Happy hunting!

I thought you were going to say it's time to trade him when his value is highest. Still not high enough to get anyone to take that contract.

He's probably not the best MVP candidate in the AL, but I'm pretty sure he is from our team.
