What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
For those of you who want Beltran to happen, what are you willing to give up, and/or what do you think it actually will take?
I do want this to happen. The more I think about it: There really is no C. Lee avail this go-round. Ubaldo isn't happening (and I'm glad - couldn't take having given up Perez/Profar and much more to cringe at every UJ pitch, hoping his arm doesn't fly off). Bell will cost way more than he's worth. Shoot me but I like our pitching staff, a lot. So but if we're gonna win it all, let's do it the old-fashioned Rangers way and just score a shitload of runs. Screw pitching-always-beats-hitting-in-the-postseason. Add Beltran (and with a healthy Beltre, Nap catching) and this lineup is beyond ridiculous.
So to answer my own question though (and to somewhat pussyfoot the above) you obviously can't give up too much. Is Wieland too much? Can't decide. I'm thinking something like Bourbon + Roman Mendez or Luke Jackson. Does that get it done? Davis off the table with Beltre injury (different subject but I actually think he will crush somewhat over the next 3 weeks).
Ha, hitting beats pitching... Look back at the world series and the Giants pitching.... Wieland plus Mendez gets it done
Ok I've convinced myself. I'd do that deal. Do it JD.
Considering the guy's a rental player, and that there's a clause in his contract that basically cancels compensation picks for the team that rents him, the Mets should be happy if they get someone to take on that salary + a marginal prospect or two. I wouldn't even give up Wieland.
Kirkman + Mendonca + Murphy for Beltran, we take his salary.
I wouldn't even give up Wieland.
How about Nate Gold? No? Jason Botts?
How about MurphyGentryKirkmanMendonca ForC Beltran F MartinezAnd we eat his salary
I don't understand the infatuation with Beltran. He's an aging, rental player. I understood the Cliff Lee trade last year bc he's an automatic game changer. The most Beltran can do is hit probably .300 with a few homeruns. Are the rangers in that big a need of offense to trade murphy and solid prospects for that? I personally dont think so. This offense is good enough to win in the postseason. Either give up some C prospects for Beltran or go for it all and get King Felix. Don't overspend on freaking beltran. The guy has been washed up for 2 seasons now and he finally has a decent half season and we're crowning him the missing piece?... ugh
