Forum > Felix Hernandez

I'm going to be straight up with you guys here... I love JD. Since the AGon trade, he's been on fire (I'm not counting the Guzman or Cantu trade bc we all thought that was good at the time). So I'm putting in a call. JD will get a top of the line SP before the deadline - I think it will be Felix Hernandez. I think JD is up to something and I have a gut feeling. Anybody feel the same?

I agree. Although they will not trade Felix. Their Gm said the other day he is untouchable. I hope he gets some damn bullpen help as well. I am sticking with my prediction and going with Ubaldo.

Let's indulge the conspiracy theory and say that their GM said he's untouchable (to everyone else)...because he's already committed to making a deal with J.D. What would we be giving up for it? It'd be a long list...

Nice fantasy. But it does seem like a waste for a guy like that to be on a team where he loses most of his games due to lack of run support. If Seattle doesn't seriously upgrade their offense, there doesn't seem to be much point in keeping him.

Nelson Cruz, Perez, Holland

Ouch! ........but for Felix????? maybe.....

Trey---- Cruz, Holland, C.D, Erlin, Mendez, Wieland Who says no?

July 22, 2011 at 2:40 PM | Unregistered CommenterGarrett

Cruz, Perez, and Holland would probably on be the start. For an offensive starved team, you would probably have to throw in C Davis and Leonys too. Young ace starter signed for several seasons don't come cheap.

Garrett - Sea says no.

July 22, 2011 at 2:44 PM | Unregistered CommenterDoc

No way I give all that up for anybody...We are winning the division with what we have now...getting someone who can close...move Feliz to the rotation next year...sign CJ and go from there!

July 22, 2011 at 3:09 PM | Unregistered Commentercproctor6

i would be thrilled if all we gave up was perez, holland, and nelson cruz for the best pitcher in the game. i would even happily throw in leonys martin and chris davis or mitch moreland.

world series favorites if we acquired felix hernandez

Not a chance, chaboi.

We Rangers fans, just like Yankees fans, need to get over ourselves. The Mariners are not trading Felix. Period.

July 22, 2011 at 3:46 PM | Unregistered Commenterrbt

Rangers fans scheming how to steal great pitchers away from other teams... getting to be a dime a dozen around here. Fantasy baseball is likely the cause of a lot of this, I'm afraid. Real life trades are not that easy, and are rarely pulled off in a vacuum. Owners & GMs are not stupid - it's all about money & maximizing profit. You only trade a healthy Felix Hernandez when you are about to lose him to free agency - everyone knows that.

Trey...I am glad your not the GM for the Rangers!!

July 22, 2011 at 4:50 PM | Unregistered Commentercproctor6

@ cproctor6

Why? If Seattle would actually accept the deal Trey put up there, are you saying you wouldn't take it?

July 22, 2011 at 5:00 PM | Unregistered CommenterNate

Hernandez is under contract until 2014. Keep dreaming that Seattle will trade him.

July 22, 2011 at 5:36 PM | Unregistered Commenterdjc

Felix isn't going anywhere.

July 22, 2011 at 7:31 PM | Registered CommenterJoey Matschulat

@trey: Regardless of whether or not that package was worth it, I really don't think they would trade him for anything. Also, I disagree with you assessment of him as "the best pitcher in the game", but that's just my opinion.

July 23, 2011 at 1:36 PM | Unregistered CommenterAndy

If we're dreaming here, I would rather have Verlander or Kershaw. I've read Felix has a no trade clause and the Rangers are on the list. I don't think Felix fits in Texas and that's fine with me as I'm skeptical as well that he is 'the best pitcher in the game'.

July 23, 2011 at 4:07 PM | Unregistered Commenterjas

I'm in the same boat as you. I don't think he is the best...top 5 probably, but not the best. I would take Halladay, Kershaw, Verlander before him. I think he is just a really really good pitcher benefitting from a really good pitchers' park that puts him over the top and helps get him the reputation as the best in the game. That park makes Fister and Vargas look like legit #2s...enough said.

First of all, this post was created for IMAGINATIONS!!!!! So in my imagination, im not gonna get excited about a deal or get anxious to throw a deal out there. We're all fans, so in a fan's perspective, i would expect 3 pitching prospects and 2 offensive prospects or talents....I dont see the M's accepting Chris Davis or Moreland since just last year we sent them Smoak.

July 23, 2011 at 8:25 PM | Unregistered CommenterBrandon from Arlignton

Felix is under team control thru 2014 when he turns 28. IF Seattle decides they need to blow it up and start from scratch they could do Felix a favor and completely restock their system because he would cost a fortune in talent.

July 25, 2011 at 11:30 AM | Unregistered CommenterAdam

Well, since we're dreaming here, no to Felix. #1 target = Weaver, #2 = Lincecum, #3 = Verlander (not that any of these players are available but we're obviously dreaming.

July 25, 2011 at 10:50 PM | Unregistered CommenterDark Reins

If we're dreaming, let's go for Cliff Lee! Oh wait, we already had him...
