Just wanted to put up a thread for anyone to post rumors/trades... Astros just traded Keppinger to the Giants for 2 prospects... Let the trade season begin!
Jon Heyman last night: my ubaldo scouting report: he's throwing great. no pouting. no red flags. #reds, #rangers, #redsox, #tigers, #yankees
Also, Per @SI_JonHeyman: Rangers not willing to trade Profar, M.Perez or L.Martin for relievers, even Bell or Adams -- also in on Ubaldo
Well its good if its true that those 3 guys should be untouchable when trying to trade for a freaking reliever that wont even be a closer....
The Tigers have acquired Wilson Betemit from the Royals for prospects Antonio Cruz and Julio Rodriguez, reports Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (Twitter links). Bob Dutton of The Kansas City Star first reported that a trade involving Betemit was imminent (on Twitter). The Royals have confirmed the move in a press release.
Adam Rubin of ESPN.com reports that the Rangers remain "very much in play" in the pursuit of Carlos Beltran. The first-place Rangers have reportedly zeroed in on Beltran and Padres’ closer Heath Bell as their primary trade targets before the deadline.
While the Rangers have a scout in Miami watching Beltran, a source tells Rubin that the Mets have ramped up watching Rangers’ minor leaguers. In fact, Mets scout Bryan Lambe is watching the Rangers’ Class A Hickory club after being redirected.
Some prominent members of the Hickory roster include shortstop Jurickson Profar, outfielder Jake Skole, third baseman Christian Villanueva and right-hander Roman Mendez. Profar was recently ranked as the game’s No. 12 prospect on Baseball America’s midseason list and is highly unlikely to be included in a potential deal for Beltran.
I admit I am a bit puzzled as to why we are going after Beltran so hard
Because Beltre is hurt and with adding Beltran and you can plug him in right away and watch him produce. He can play any 3 outfield position (Knees arent that good to play in CF all the time) but you could have him in right , cruz in left, and hamilton in center. You could also put him in cleanup or 5th spot in the order.
True... but then you have 6 OF's on the roster. Plus Chris Davis will be coming up to play for Beltre, which kind of sucks cause I believe the Mets would like him in a trade. I would keep Cruz in right field, Hamilton to center, Beltre in left if possible. But then where do Gentry/Chavez go? Trade bait? Murphy would stay as the 4th OF... Hamilton could get some days as DH.... just seems to be too crowded in the OF for Beltran.
Our offense is already pretty good... though Beltran may hit better here in Texas cause our stadium is better for his talents then silly Citifield
I think that if we were to get Beltrán, we would need to trade Chavez or Gentry to clear up some space. Those guys could be included in a deal for Heath Bell possibly. Maybe I'm wrong...
A Mets fan I talk with on a board says that he heard on radio up there that a Beltran deal is "getting closer" and that the Braves and Rangers are the now the favorites... Phillies are out of it.
Take it FWIW
If Chris Davis can prove himself this time around, the Rangers can trade David Murphy. CD would be an 1B/3B/LF, that would give Rangers even more versatility.
Texas’ brass wants another crack at the ring, and bristles at the idea of Boston or New York swooping in on Jimenez. The Rangers scouted his most recent start. Still, the Rangers aren’t yet prepared to make the type of offer the Rockies seek, viewing Jimenez as a No. 2 starter in trade, not a bona fide ace.
Wtf?! How is he not considered a true #1 after going 19-8 last year with a 2.50 era?!
Beltran has said privately he wants to remain in the NL. I don't want to give good picks the Mets are asking for to rent a player. We have way to many outfielders. It is time to give Murph and Gentry the opportunity to play full time by trading them to another team. I expect Martin to take over the 4th of spot if not starting by the end of the season. He is blazing thru the minors and is at Round Rock now. We can keep Endy he will provide not only depth but experience during the post season. Plus, if Davis can maintain a decent .270 + avg we have him to spot play in left.
If the Rangers get Beltran they're offense will be better then the Yankees and red sox (with a healthy beltre)
Big News from Ian Fitzsimmons: 1.Rangers news – this is as tight lipped as many have ever seen. Talking to 1 person close to the team. "We have a lot irons in fires.2. “We are trying to make a big splash.”
