Evan Grant reports the Rangers are one of the teams that has talked to Oakland about Andrew Bailey. That would be a.......huge! Under control for I believe three more years, had a couple of injuries, but been pretty reliable. Would take a haul to get him though.

Also the Rangers apparently have talked to SEA possibly about Brandon League. Another reliable reliever from a division rival. A little older than Bailey, been healthy the past few seasons, higher salary but still cheap. Probably wouldn't take as big a prospect package for him.

Interesting names being talked about.

Thanks for this post. The interest IS building, waiting for the next news.
I like all the names of relievers available. I'm surprised none has been
traded for yet. Yanks & Rangers should be the bigger players. Daniels
is in Seattle. I would think something might break, before the LAA trip.
tic toc tic ... the tension builds.

According to Rosenthal, the A's feeling is they'd have to be 'overwhelmed' in order to move Bailey.

Marlins are talking about trading Nolasco, who the Rangers have coveted for some time. Just FYI. Big surprise, the Yankees are interested too. Kind of fits your earlier statement HubZ. Don't know that I'd put him before C.J. or Colby.

Rick~
I turn my back on Press whispers. Rangers are stealthy.
Some small leaks slide under the doors. Some observations,
like Daniels in Seattle, can be conjecture... for now. The deal
with all Orgs wanting big payback for Relievers... 95% of GM's
don't believe paying BIG... especially Daniels.
There's going to be a domino falling before Monday a.m. News,
I think. Maybe the Rangers want or feel the NEED to beef up slightly,
before the Angels series? Daniels is very aggressive. He's not in
Seattle for the cooler weather. It's thick city, in trade talk... not rest.
Monday is a day off. Good day for a Texas closing jam time.
I LOVED how O'Day was presented to the Rangers... remember?

I agree, for the most part. It is entertaining reading, i.e. Danks for elite prospects. Those three words do not belong in the same conversation (Danks & Elite Prospects). It is fodder more than anything. I get real insight elsewhere, as I am sure you do too.

I would go get Bailey. Especially if they want to take CD off our hands in the deal. The only problem is that JD isn't likely to give up the talent that they want for him (like Perez or Profar). If they would take CD, Scheppers, Weiland, and Ramirez I would do it; anything more then say no and go use those guys to get Anibel sanchez or Nolasco

I really enjoy this time of the season,;never know who is going to come out of nowhere to get a guy (like 2010 Rangers getting Lee)...we're only days away from the floodgates opening on trades around the league. The anticaipation for JD to make a deal is growing around here.

Why not give up Davis and Profar for Bailey and Balfour? Why are you guys so reluctant to give up Profar? I know he is an elite SS prospect, but just who do you think he will be replacing in the near future? Hopefully we will have Andrus and Kinsler together for some time. I love our middle infield combination!!

July 16, 2011 at 11:37 PM | Unregistered CommenterWatson88

He's not going to replace anyone anytime soon, but just in case Elvis Andrus decides to test Free Agency in a few years, the Rangers have a player that they can use as his replacement.

Also, you wouldn't give up what many scouts considered the best shortstop prospect for a good reliever. You would want to get a TORP with that like Boston did when they got Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell for Hanley Ramirez and Anibal Sanchez.

Profar/Perez are really really young AND replaceable, because of their age.
Not for a reliever though. 95% of GM's won't overpay for relief. "Positioning
and Posing" are part of the image of trading. Always ask high. Daniels holds
his ground, better than most. Davis/Moreland- great examples of holding hard.
Baily's not the best choice... I like Mormol, of Cubs. Open negotiations there?

July 17, 2011 at 9:03 AM | Unregistered CommenterHubZ

hubz there will always be willing to be open negotiations with the cubs. theyre looking to cut payroll in hopes of signing Pujols. i bet if we find some good but cheap trade chips to offer, they'll bite.

Mormol is nasty!

Buster Olney: Executives from rival clubs say Rangers are favorites for either Heath Bell or Mike Adams

July 17, 2011 at 12:04 PM | Unregistered CommenterGarrett

How about Mike gonzalez he would not cost much in terms of prospects before he went to baltimore he was a nasty closer a lefty with heat maybe a change of sceanary gets him back to form our 2 lefties we have are both unreliable so why not take a chance why waste top prospects for a rent a player like Bell. Marmols a option to but he will cost to much for my taste.

Am I the only one that believes the Rangers don't need to make any moves? I know we have holes but I am not willing to give up anything right now for "help". I believe the Rangers will win the West as they are right now. I don't believe they will make it back to the WS as is and don't believe they will make it if they add bullpen help. Stay pat, win the division and maybe catch lightning in a bottle. Just don't give up prospects for a reliever that you will have to over pay for. If able to give up a mid-level prospect then do it.

July 17, 2011 at 1:28 PM | Unregistered CommenterMose

Let me ask you this, Mose. With your strong stance of status quo,
not trading away prospects; have you spent time in Frisco or
Round Rock watching/evaluating the play of our prospects?

July 17, 2011 at 6:08 PM | Unregistered CommenterHubZ

Look, Mose. I DO watch the minors. I DO get attached to these kids. But reality is reality. Baseball is a business. To improve the club that matters, you have to move "chess pieces" You give up a pawn, a rook, and a knight for the others queen and bishops, and ultimately win the entire prize... check mate! If you want to stand pat? Then I guess you are content with a Division Title. That's about all you'll get standing pat. You really think for a second we could possibly, for one second, beat the Phillies in the WS?
C'mon man!

July 17, 2011 at 6:18 PM | Unregistered CommenterRicky in Fort Worth

I think they'll get a good bullpen arm and not give up a top 5 prospect. There are just too many good bullpen arms available to pay too much for one.

July 17, 2011 at 7:12 PM | Unregistered Commenterdjc

For every top tier BP arm there is available? There is a team who needs or wants one. It won't be an untouchable to relent, but it will be a good prospect plus.
