I honestly think the Rangers should seriously consider signing this guy in the off season. Trade moreland or cruz and get some pitching.

Pass.

I concur with Adam. If one had a Yankee check book, assembling one's daily "All-Star" team, maybe.

The Rangers do not need to sign a big free agent contract @ a position where they're fully stocked by more than serviceable youth.

Keep said youth, and use said free agent money where it is most needed.

Yes we have youth coming. And as HubZ said, those youth can be your BP short-term. but I think we still need a stud #1. That is where the money should be spent.

Agree or not... you think we'd beat the Phillies in the WS this year? There is your answer.

Agree...pass. Someone will overpay for him and he is seriously out of shape. Not the direction the Rangers are headed. He hit a 3 run HR in the ASG - big deal! Whoever over pays for him will deal with headache after headache after his ability to hit is gone. And, it will be gone before his next contract is up.

So use money on a big pitcher...ok who?? Looked at the 2011 free agents recently? You probably haven't because their is no one available. Every team is locking up their pitchers. Trade is the way to go. And a three run home run in the all star game that determines home field advantage is no big deal?? Hahaha wow you're a complete idiot than.

remember when hank blalock hit that winning homerun in the all star game off gagne?

I'm the idiot, yet everyone but you, agrees with me. Hmmm. I never said go get a FA pitcher, did I? I said trade for a stud pitcher, rather than a 1st baseman where we have no need. You can find teams with talented pitchers. Teams who are ready to deal. Someone like this kid I wrote about on a different forum earlier:

Jhoulys Chacin is the type of guy we need to go get. He'd be excellent in this park. Would not cost us the farm. And he has the potential to be a top of the rotation kind of guy. He'd be a great #3 or #4 right now. His groundball ratio is awesome, which is badly needed here. It is a great time to get him. 2012 Contract Status: Signed thru 2011, 1 yr/$419k, Arb Eligible: 2013, Free Agent: 2016. We'd have long-term control.

Let's see if I am still an idiot after you read this...

Hell, he'd be a great #2 right now. He eats up innings. He'll pitch over 200 this year. And his GO / AO ratio is excellent. Even better than C.J.'s.

Isn't Prince Fielder more of a Station to Station type player? How does he fit here?

July 13, 2011 at 6:16 PM | Unregistered CommenterHubZ

@Ricky. So you think the Rockies will just give him to the Rangers?? You said it yourself the guy is\will be a stud so you kinda WOULD need to give up alot for him just like Tyler clippard young contolable guys have more value then rent a players so the prospect price would rise.

Billy Beane told me that Prince Fielder was too fat even for the A's, so I'll pass.

... wait, it's not 2002 anymore? You say that Oakland draft class busted and Milwaukee got one of the primo power bats of our generation?

Did he say that before or after he got Jeremy Brown?

July 14, 2011 at 8:16 AM | Unregistered Commenterdjc

I bet given his weight he suffers from knee and/or lower back problems in the future. He'll want a long expensive contract that'll take him into his mid-to-late 30's and there's no way he'll be able to stay healthy for the length of the contract, even if he eventually moves off the field to DH.

If we signed Prince, I fear he'd end up being like Carlos Lee in Houston.

Okay, maybe not that bad, but still probably way overpaying for someone we don't need and probably won't get much bang for the buck with.
