What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
Mostly a procedural move, since no on in their right mind would claim them, and May God Bless them if someone does. Just a way to put his ass and his outsized contract in the minors.
We can hope that he gets picked up can't we? Can we start a marketing campaign based on the number 17? Maybe intrigue one team to bite. Maybe?
Looking at the contract again... damn. How'd he do that (sucker TX into giving him that deal)? And I hope he's been saving his big paychecks.
Frankly, this is a move that had to happen. A blind man should've seen it coming, thus no real surprise here. No one picked him up, and he will be in AAA, when and if we need him. But if the Rangers pick up the club option in 2013?
Jhoulys Chacin is the type of guy we need to go get. He'd be excellent in this park. Would not cost us the farm. And he has the potential to be a top of the rotation kind of guy. He'd be a great #3 or #4 right now. His groundball ratio is awesome, which is badly needed here. It is a great time to get him. 2012 Contract Status: Signed thru 2011, 1 yr/$419k, Arb Eligible: 2013, Free Agent: 2016. We'd have long-term control.
Making room at AAA... Rangers released Manny Delcarmen and Seth McClung. Next couple weeks will be interesting!
Ricky - but the Rocks are rumored to be looking to add pieces, not take away. And why would they want to move that guy - he's young & good? Not saying I wouldn't like to get him - but I'm not sure he's gonna be available.
@ WWJDD & Martin -
The Rockies are willing to sell now. Of course they want to add pieces in return. And no I never said they were going to give us Chacin. But I'd rather trade youth for a young, talented, controllable player, than a high priced rent-a-player who will likely sign elsewhere next year. And even if he did sign here, he'd cost too much. Go with youth, i.e. Chacin, Clippard, etc.
