Forum > MY Quote

At the All-Star game, MY said "At one point I would have rather been a Rockie than a Ranger...I thought I was going to be in Colorado." Does anyone think that he has not put all of this behind him? Or do you think he is proud again of owning the title "Mr. Ranger"?

I don't think that quote tells you either way, at least not how it is given here.

What does it say in context and what did you take out from the middle of the quote.

It will be interesting to see how things pan out during the off season, but at this point if he wants to still be traded it is likely because he wants to play in the field everyday which is something the Rangers cannot oblige him on.

I don't think you can tell to much from that quote either. MY's actions once the season started have been ok in my book. Now I don't like him forcing himself on the field at the expense of the team but I don't have any information to tell m how that is actually handled, if it is the Rangers just doing it or is he in Wash's ear demanding it. I wouldn't expect that man to say hey only let me bat, I just don't see a competitive person doing that.

Here's the rest of that quote:

"If you had asked me at one point in the offseason I would have said I would have been a Rockie rather than a Ranger," Young said to a small group of reporters answering a question of Troy Renck of The Denver Post. "I thought that’s where it was headed. I know a lot of guys with the Rockies and I am pulling for them. I have been with the Rangers 11 years and I am happy where I am at. It's a great group of guys I get to play with."

that quote is a lot different than "...I would have rather been a rockie than a ranger..." the placement of the word "rather" is important. in the quote that started the thread, it made it sound like he wanted to be a rockie instead of a ranger, in the real quote, it sounds like he just thought he was going to be a rockie, not that he preferred being a rockie to a ranger. he also ended a sentenece with a preposition. is this really who we want as the "face" of our orginization?

Seems curious that a "rather" slipped itself into MY's quote. Not characteristic at all for this site's posters when regarding MY.

johnnyranger,

Because he has bad grammar in that one quote we don't want him as our face?

Was that a joke or are you some kind of weird psycho grammar person?

Watson88,

We would RATHER you keep your quotes accurate. If you are paraphrasing you need a disclaimer.

I got the quote from the Rockies beat writer tweet. He was the one paraphrasing which made it sound a bit odd.

Joe,

Joke.

I misspelled two words in the last two sentences. Ironic.
