Forum > Is Leonys Martin ready for AAA?

After reading Scott Lucas' farm report this morning and seeing Martin's slash line (.339/.421/.560), I began to wonder if he is being challenged in AA. Other than his atrocious stolen base rate (55%) and the fact he has only played 28 games and 109 ABs, he has shown that AA pitchers are inferior to him.

I believe he should be promoted as soon as Borbon is traded. Thoughts?

I agree with you Eddie. Hopefully we didn't give him $15 million dollars over three years for minor league outings. Promote him to AAA so we can gauge how long it will take him to contribute at the Major League level. Borbon is superfluous and needs to be traded to the Nationals for a solid reliever.

Don't rush it.
Here's a challenge....
Find an instance or instances of players careers going down the toilet due to too much time at a certain level in the minors.
Find an instance or instances in which a players career went down the toilet because they were promoted too quickly.
I'm betting one of the two will win in a lopsided manner.

What makes anyone think there's a club out there that's dying to have Borbon?
I know he's raised his average back to respectability lately, but it's the same old lightweight cr*p. Soft ground balls, bunts, little flares over the infield. He's just not going to be a major league hitter.

The Rangers need to promote Martin now and let him play alongside Borbon. That way they can prove to themselves once and for all who the better player is.

Six weeks in Triple-A, a September call-up, and Martin will be ready to challenge for the CF job in Arlington next spring.

Don't know why the Nats would want Borbon when they already have Roger Bernadina who's doing a respectable job at the plate and defensively in CF. Borbon also doesn't walk at all so he doesn't fill their need for a leadoff hitter.

Better to trade Borbon now than keep him around. He's 26 next year and the perception at that age is that you're no longer young or a project with upside.

Borbon was carted off the field in RR after sliding into the tarp. Depending on what the X-Rays show, the answer to this question may be, "tomorrow"

Personally. I don't think Borbon will turn out anything other than
a good AAA player or added bench player for OF depth w/ speed.
Endy, nor Gentry are going to be "Main Stays", but defensively- Better.
Leonys Martin, may be the future, or at he's thought of as such- 2012.

After Borbon went down, as expected, Martin is now in AAA. He singled, doubled and walked twice yesterday to raise his slash in AA to a ridiculous (.348/.435/.571). He has also reached safely in 27 consecutive games (only played in 29).

Is Borbon related to Nancy Carrigan?

Borbon may turn into Chavez in a few years if he is lucky. A decent enough 4th/5th OF.

I believe Martin is ready for the bigs. He can be our 2011 Mitch Moreland.
