Forum > Greatest Sports Movies

So the baseball forums movies forum is officially dead: The official winner of favorite BBTiA baseball movie is...... The Natural. Very Close race 3 way tie for 2nd: Sandlot, Major League, Bull Durham

So now i'm giving you an even bigger challenge especially since everyone seemed to enjoy the last forum.

We could easily spend a week at a time breaking it up into individual sports movies yada yada, i'm cutting to the chase. List your Top 5 Sports movies of all time, and one honorable mention. The HM is for a movie that might be deemed by the rest as very good, or some might question whether pool (color of money) or horse racing (seabuscuit) are a sport so you could throw that there. or it could be a sports movie that just has special meaning to you. It'll be tough to narrow it down, trust me, if we get a lot of participation you'll think you'll have your list then someone might bring up a movie that trumps one of yours. So think hard. have fun.

Here's mine:

1. Raging Bull - Greatest story of one man's rise and epic fall. Plus further proved the academy is completely biased. Scorcese got jobbed not getting best director for this one.
2. Jerry Maguire - Life, Love, Football.... Tom Petty... one of the most underrated movies of all time
3. Hoosiers - basically set the format for sports movies for years. basically all disney sports movies are a copy of hoosiers.
4. Tin Cup - the adult version of the sandlot in "heroes get remembered, but legends never die" excellent movie
5. The Fighter - theres a ton of boxing movies out there, all underdog stories, but Christian Bale's performance along with Mellissa Leo's and Amy Adam's puts this over the top. Its a sports movie, but its also about family; no matter how F***ed up it is.

Honorable Mention: Rocky IV - single handedly ended the cold war. Talking robots, Apollo Creed Dies? wtf? Soviets using roids? it has it all. Rocky won the academy award. Rocky II he won the fight. But Rocky iV is the one of all the Rocky movies you just cant turn off.

Not sure if Andy is being sarcastic or not. I think I was the first the mention "A League of Their Own" and I would include it on this list as well.

1. A League of Their Own (it's one of my all-time favorite movies, period.)
2. Field of Dreams
3. Caddyshack
4. Hoosiers
5. Any of the NFL Films productions looking back at a Cowboys Super Bowl winning season
HB: Seabiscuit

p.s. After Dcaggie06 quoted a Cher song, I'm not taking any more guff about A League of Their Own from him.

sorry to double post, but speaking of the cowboys superbowl collections..... there are a couple of the espn 30 for 30 i have to sit down and watch every time. 2 for sure come to mind. Reggie Miller vs NY. and the Vlade Divac one. I'm not a cryer. at all. and the Vlade one had that lump in my throat going hard.

@Scott: Only somewhat. I enjoyed the movie, but I don't know if it would make my list. I was implying, however facetiously, that no one would put that on their list (presumably because it's about girls playing baseball, playing into a stereotype about womens' sports not being interesting).

make no mistake, the Sony awards do not give any recognltion to quality; they have been created solely for
the purpose of Sony exposure - the awards tend to be given to those shows with most audience pull.
