WWJDD, I just read on a subscribers only TROT COFFEY report from Jamey Newberg this morning: Anibal Sanchez of the marlins. Here's his numbers: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/sanchan01.shtml Hes just 27 and under control through 2012. I would say adding Sanchez and Tyler Clippard from the Nats would put this team over the top. It sounds like the Marlins will move him for the right deal. Another thing is that he has had arm problems over the years and the marlins dont want to keep him while moving into their new stadium. Make your move J.D. The Time is now.
Garrett
I'm a big Anibal Sanchez fan & would be very happy to get him! He's not Cliff Lee, but he's pretty good. He would cost a pretty penny, though.
WWJDD?
Here's another link of how Sanchez has fully recovered from his injuries: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/whats-right-with-anibal-sanchez/
Garrett
He's never really wow'ed me. but right now anythings better than Holland/Broken Ogando.... i'll check out yall's intel.
just out of curiousity cuz ppl were arguing about this on another forum.... who would yall take? Baker or Liriano?
Dcaggie06
Hold on Dc, heres another one on Sanchez: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/anibal-sanchez-the-race-changer/
Garrett
Dc, I would take a shot on either one, depending on the asking prices. Baker is a consistent, developed starter. We know what he brings to the table. Liriano, on the other hand, is still young... but inconsistent and injuries concern me
Garrett
Yeah i'm with you on Baker and consistency, but he also can be consistenly bad. it was like 2 seasons ago he was like 7-15 or something like that. i'd gamble on liriano. too much up side.
Ok... i did some research for yall.
Updates: Baltimore will be sellers, Guthrie (we already knew) but theyve confirmed theyre willing to talk about matusz (told yall!) Theyre also willing to talk Keuhera, and Gregg
Josh Johnson: might be out for the season.... take him off your radar
Giants: willing to part with Zito.... possibly a YT for Zito deal?..... who knows. BTW Zito was stout last night. can he bring it like that every night no clue. i dunno his contract situation either, if its up end of year though i'd pull that trigger.
Phils: confirmd they will not be sellers, they will not part with Hamels or Blanton (thank you Oswalt you douche)
Yankees: are willing to part with Montero.... this interest me greatly... but i dunno if yankees would deal with us for screwing them on lee. they for sure would over price him. But he could be the C of teh future we desperately need.
Dodgers: will be seized by MLB most likely by McCourts deadline. thus making a trade with them more difficult.
Thats about all i could find. i'm still holding out hope for Cueto. bring the chunky Predator to Texas!
Dcaggie06
I think if you look close at Baker's stats, when he has lost his other stats are still pretty good, so a bad W-L might not mean anything. I would take him because he's a very solid guy who is consistent and doesn't seem to ever get hurt. Liriano is probably the more talented of the two, but as you mentioned, a much bigger risk. I doubt that Minn would consider moving either of those guys, except for a bonafide ML starter, or someone with tremendous potential. I would imagine that Baker, for instance, would cost Texas Holland, Perez, and probably another player like Profar.
WWJDD?
yeah i wouldnt give up prospects for them. Sucks about liriano.... cuz if it wasnt for him having 1 perfect game and almost another.... we coulda got him on the cheap. he was headed to the BP. yeah i kinda noticed that about baker. he's like colby last year. his "losses" were always like 2-3 and crap like that. i'm just not a fan. but thats mainly cuz i had him on my fantasy league for like 3 years and he always let me down. bastard. This year, though, i am not partaking.
Dcaggie06
I don't remember who said this - mighta been scooby - but I think it's very true: Baker is a guy that every single ML team would love to have in their rotation. He eats innings, is consistent, has a great attitude, and knows how to pitch. He's as solid as they come and worth every penny of his contract. There is very little to say negatively about him. He's not spectacular, but he always gets the job done.
WWJDD?
Liriano reminds me of Holland in that they both have incredible stuff and show flashes of brilliance but also have crazy meltdown games/innings where you question their makeup.
Baker is kinda like a 'game management QB'. Won't blow you away with crazy numbers or stuff, but at the end of the day, he gives you what you need to win.
Adam
Not sure about Liriano. An ERA of almost 5, a horrible 39 BBs in 72 IP - it is obvious he is way off his game this year.

@ Dcaggie
I have no doubt that the Giants will gladly part w/ Zito.
The remainder of his contract looks like this (per Roto World):
2011: $18.5 million.
2012: $19.0 million.
2013: $20.0 million.
2014: $18.0 million club option w/ $7.0 million buyout (vests w/ 200 IP in 2013, 400 IP in 2012-13 or 600 IP in 2011-13) (voidable by player).
His production since he signed the contract in 2007 (per FanGraphs) denotes that he is basically a replacement level pitcher at roughly 2 WAR/season (see Hunter, Tommy).
Why would we want to trade YT for another (older version) of Tommy Hunter whom the Rangers will have to pay a minimum (assuming a buyout) of $55MM over the next 2.5 seasons?
Caleb
@Dcaggie06: We didn't screw NY over Lee. Lee wanted to play in Phil more than either here or NY. If NY holds a grudge against us (which they might for all I know), it's unjustified.
Andy
I'm staying On "Crunch..." to solve this hidden TORP #1-#2 type arm. I'm TRYING
to keep in FOCUS. Not all this secondary fluff or mid-rotation guys. C'mon guys,
anytime you have to put in the word "INJURY" you're barking up the wrong Oak Tree.
That's right, we need a strong Oak, that can expect to win TWO possibly, in a 7-series.
That's a frick'n TORP. As in, "make the team better".
HubZ
@ Caleb F*** Zito then. lol. i knew he had a long contract but i figured it was done now. i thought it was for like 7 yeasr but i guess maybe it wasnt that long ago. no way in hell i'm taking that.
@Andy, i dont think we screwed NY over lee. But i can tell you NY media does. granted they dont run the yanks it might be the pulse of the team. i have no clue.
Dcaggie06
Good thing the Mavs don't think this way. Man it would suck to have Kidd, Marion, Terry and Dirk when they are in there 30's. You have to take chances and risks to win. I guess Harrison, Holland and Lewis are the answer. The Rangers will never win a ring with worrying about how old a guy will be at the end of a contract. Stop looking at 7 years from now. Look at today and we could use Lee. That would allow ogando to pitch the 8th. Follow the Mavs blue print and stop the losing in Arlington. Pay the players and worry about NOW. Look at the NHL they sign guys to 15 yr deals to make it work. You need vets to win not youth.
Garrett
(My response to the Rangers not signing Lee)
Garrett
I thought for a second there that my browser kicked me to the Cliff Lee thread...
Adam
Bad news for those wanting Berdard... 15 day DL shoulder issues
however Josh Johnson was seen by a specialist and there is zero structural damage to his shoulder... just lots of inflammation. Sounds like bursitis.... which is a bitch to get over. Recover is similar to plantar faciatius. he's basically gonna have to not use it for a while. i'm thinking his season's done.
Dcaggie06
@Dcaggie06: Shame they have so much reach and clout, then, because if they bothered to stop and listen to what he said when he signed with Phil, they would realize how unfounded such a grudge would be. So, basically, f*** them.
Andy
TORP ... can you say ChiC or ChiS.
I'd be happy with a GOOD #3, which are around.
That's a start/move in the right road.
Garza comes up in the mix again. Floyd too.
Mark Buehrle is a Yankee Killer. I could go further.
I see some interesting arms in AL/NL Central Divisions.
Rangers aren't shy of money... just opportunity- for now.
GO Daniels GO Daniels GO Daniels
HubZ
Not a Garza fan... think he's a little overrated and always has been. Burhle scares me playing at RBPiA. I know he's had success there, but he's also susceptible to the long ball. now Gavin Floyd i've been saying for 2 months to acquire him. he's only getting better. Statistical 2nd half player, and he actually had a decent good 1st half for once this year (good compared to prior years).
you can make a deal for Floyd... i'd say do it.
Dcaggie06

I don't have anything to add, really... I just like to say "Sleeper TORP" and wanted to do my part to keep this thing rolling into July. Anyone out there have any sleeper TORP news they want to add?
