What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
We have a lot of hitters with an over .800 OPS.
KInsler and Beltre would be up over .800 if they get hot for a week or so. Beltre's at .770 and Kinsler is at .740.
All that seems pretty impressive to me even though we don't have any hitters with an OPS over .900.
It seem like the offense is doing very well except for not having those exceptional .900 OPS hitters like we did last year.
I guess it would be more valuable to look at our team OPS as compared to other teams but I don't know where to find that.
In contrast the Red Sox only have 5 players with an over .800 OPS and one of them has 30 at bats.
The Yankees also have only 5 players with an OPS over .800 and one of them has only 30 at bats.
So if you take out Davis and Chavez who together have only 130 at bats you get 5 players with an over .800 OPS compared with 4 for both the Yankees and the Red Sox. I think this shows that if our offense ever gets hot, which I don't think it has been since the first 10 games of the season, we will be one of the best offenses in baseball if not the best offense in baseball.
I found the team OPS's and the Rangers have the 3rd best in baseball behind the Yanks and Sox who have almost an .800 team OPS.
I think this shows that the Rangers have more parity while the top two teams OPS's are higher because they have a few guys with a .900 plus OPS. If they get hot over an extended period and Nellie and Josh sit over .900 where they should be I think the Rangers probably close the gap and catch both teams.
Kinsler, Moreland, Beltre and Napoli also possibly could pump up there OPS to over .900. All of these guys save Moreland have had a plus .900 OPS in the past.
Out of all those guys you mentioned, only Hammy has an OPS above .800 away from home. You'd figure NYY's tiny park also skews their hitters' numbers as well, but all 4 of the Yanks hitters with an OPS above .800 have OPS's above .800 away from home, not to mention 8/9th's of their starting lineup has an OPS above .734. Think their lineup is a little more balanced, not to mention they're 1st in MLB in BB's while we're 24th which explains how they're way ahead of us in runs scored/game despite us having a higher team BA.
cool Kristen, the Yanks are awesome!
If both Napoli and Endy start the Rangers have a lineup with 8 of 9 hitters at an .800 OPS or better.
The Rangers are now the second best offensive team in all of major league baseball.
And still hitters like Kinsler, Cruz, Beltre, and Hamilton have numbers below where they should be while probably the only potential over achiever in the bunch is Endy Chavez.
If the Rangers continue hitting like they have been they will be one of the top offensive teams in baseball and the parity with which they have achieved this is amazing even while their best hitters under achieve. We are a starter and maybe a lock down late inning guy away from another World Series run. I mean that based on the talent level. There is no telling what baseball will throw at you next. We just need to keep our nose to the grindstone.
@Kristen do you think the teams OPS will improve with Bosley gone? I know I head Coulbaugh (SP) on the radio a few days ago and I really like what I heard compared to what I Bosley had to say the few times I heard him. Situational hitting, take what the pitch gives you and working the count, productive outs that sort of thing.
