Forum > Martin?

L. Martin isn't playing for AA lately, & I don't see him playing for AAA - so he musta been injured? How did I miss that?

He hurt his back like 3 weeks ago. He's rehabbing in the Arizona Summer League right now

He's made a couple of Rookie League starts and shouldbe back at AA quickly enough.

I would take Martin over Gentry, but the problem is that Chavez and Martin are both lefties.

What is the likelihood we see Martin this year before roster expansion?

What is the likelihood we see him at roster expansion to compete for a playoff spot?

Anyone? I think we owe to ourselves to figure out if he might be able to contribute. Who at this time last year thought that Mitch Moreland would be the offensive star of the World Series?

How can you say that you would take Martin over Gentry when Martin has been with the organization for all of, what, 8 weeks? Have you even seen him play? I'm not saying that he might not be our best option in CF, but how do you know? For all we know he may get eaten up when he eventually makes the move to AAA. Pumping the brakes a little may be in order...

Adam,

Let me rephrase.

I would rather see what Martin might be able to do rather than sticking with Gentry.

Why? Because there is a chance Martin could contribute immediately offensively in a way that Gentry never will. How high is that chance? No idea, maybe 20 percent? All I am saying is that we need to see Martin up here before the playoffs start so that we can assess whether he might contribute down the stretch and in the playoffs.

And of course that is assuming he gets healthy, and continues to kill AA pitching. And obviously a promotion to Round Rock would probably be a prerequisite.

What is the likelihood we see Martin this year before roster expansion?

20%. That said, there are people out there of repute who believe he could be the Rangers' starting center fielder right now and that he doesn't have very much else to pick up. Still, 20%. Maybe less.

What is the likelihood we see him at roster expansion to compete for a playoff spot?

I'm not sure whether this question is referencing his chances of being promoted once rosters expand (probably north of 80%) or his chances of being legitimately considered for a playoff roster spot (10%).

IF Endy goes down with injury... Leonys will be up to MLB Rangers faster than you can say Borbon.
