Forum > What Would You Give Up?

What would you give up to shore up this rotation... well really the bull-pen? I know Hunter and Feldman are en route soon. Really? If I could pick one guy to bring in? Tyler Clippard. Who would I not give up? Wielnd, Erlin, Ross, Olt, Profar, Beltre, Martin, Villanueava, etc. Crush Davis needs to be an everyday guy. I love him, but Moreland has painted him into a corner. Use his value now. Villanueva, I believe can transition to 2nd base, thus leaving Olt @ 3rd. The future outfield, I believe, is Beltre in LF, Martin in CF, and Cone in RF. Moreland @ 1st, Villanueva @ 2nd, Profar @ SS, and Olt @ 3rd. What we better think about is catcher... Teagarden has interest from several places. Alfaro is severaal years away. I say keep Tea and let him become a productive veteran catcher with the young arms coming up. Oh, and Josh will DH, with the eventual spell in the field. Murphy needs to be an everyday guy. Use his value now too. We have plenty of OF role players. Minor leagurs to trade? Bianucci, etc. Use their good numbers to your advantage. they will not see time in Arlington. What to do with Mendonca? Damn, does this guy keep making a case for himself or what? Another trade chip. Olt is the future at 3rd. We have a lot of talent, pitching wise, in the minors. Some of which will have to convert to BP guys. The good news is, this team is a team to be reckoned with for years to come. but this year? What would you give up to ensure another run?

Murphy needs to be traded. Borbon is a better option for a fourth outfielder than Murphy. Just look at the numbers for this year and don't forget to look at defense and in particular range. Furthermore, Moreland needs to be at first and Young needs to NEVER EVER PLAY ON THE FIELD AGAIN... IN HIS LIFE.... EVER! My 4 year old son can field better than Young! Hell, a dead rabbit can field a ball better than Young.

I would give up RW for a manager who wouldn't put Gentry in the 2 hole instead of Young and then have him bunt in the first inning down 3-0 with Kinsler on first. If you don't trust the guy to swing in that situation, it's self evident that he shouldn't be hitting 2.

Put Ogando back in the pen and trade for a starting pitcher, even if the asking price is high. Otherwise, the season is over. The Rangers can't go into the playoffs with Wilson/Lewis/Harrison/Holland as their 4-man rotation against Boston or NYY.

Holland's numbers last year in the play-offs against the Yankees were awesome, but I have no leg to stand on to argue your point. Ogando MUST stay in the rotation. Bring in Clippard or Hanrahan or someone. But you can't take out your best starter. The offense is here. Trade pieces are readily available. The Orioles like Davis? Trade Davis and Borbon or Murphy for BP help. And DO NOT tell me Hunter or Feldman is the answer. Hunter sprains a hammy wiping his rear, and Feldman is an average pitcher at best. If you want to be elite? Go after elite players. I love the Rangers, but 40 year old BP guys, more BP help injured more oft than not, and some really questionable managerial calls? Damnit. I was mad when Palmiero and the other veterans said they just wanted to play .500 ball several years ago. That is no goal! Since the 9-1 start? The Rangers are 4 games below .500 ball. Nuff said? Nuff said.

If the rumor is true, trading Torrealba for a reliever would be a huge mistake. The Rangers don't need bullpen help. They need to trade for a a #2 or 3 starter. Come playoff time their rotation would be Wilson/x/Lewis/Harrison. Their bullpen would include Feliz, Ogando, Lowe, ODay, Oliver, Holland, and Feldman. That's potentially a pretty good bullpen and starting rotation. They can't throw Wilson/Lewis/Harrison/Holland at NYY, Boston, and Philadelphia. That would be a joke.

Another way to look at it is that the 2011 team is basically the same as the 2010 team, minus Cliff Lee. That's a big minus and you don't erase it by signing a reliever. We've known since Lee left that the Rangers have to replace him to have a legitimate shot.

(I just don't see Ogando in the starting rotation at playoff time.)

Talk about a long hot summer; just waiting for the first domino to fall. Were getting pretty close to that time last year when B. Molina showed up. That started it all...
