What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
WWJD that is where you and I respectfully disagree. Looking good on paper and Insuring good in reality are two different things. The FO should have had a real closer in if they were going to put Feliz in for closer. Depending on Lowe after his injury and Rhodes at his age to be anything more than fliers does not seem like prudent planning. That's just a difference in opinion. As far as the Lee thing it is water under the bridge but if this team is one and done in the playoffs you can ask yourself should would it have been worth another year for Lee?
zack greinke the same guy w/ a 5.23 era and -.2 WAR this year? he was injured too this year right? those numbers might be misleading and everyone knows how fickle era is for judging a pitcher's effectiveness, but bottom line, i'm glad we didn't mortgage the future for him. i'm pretty content with our starting rotation. i'm glad harrison and holland are getting an extended shot at the rotation after being yo-yo'd for so long. i'd like to see how they look after 25-30 starts. they could turn out to be rotation cogs for years to come. i guess if we sent holland to kc for greinke, ogando would have still gotten his chance to start, but what if we had sent other pieces and kept holland and greinke takes ogando's spot. how does that help this team this year? would anyone take greinke's season so far over ogando's? not to mention the fact that we would have missed out on knowing that we have a possible TORP in ogando, or at least a middle rotation starter, if he would have stayed in the 8th inning role this year. garza? meh. lee? we can't make him stay, whatever his reasons were he's free to do what he wants. we traded for him midyear and people act like he owed us some kind of loyalty or something. why? he's from arkansas? i'm from texas and i don't have any loyalty whatsoever to arkansas, why should he have loyalty to texas? he pitched as well as he could while he was here, and that's all that any reasonable person can ask for. i'm happy about the nonmoves made in the offseason. we can't trade away our farm every year.
Why do some live in the Past? Is it because we don't have an Ace or do youjust like to bore us all to tears of Lee & Davis tales, of "what If's"? Let the Teamenjoy this comfy Home stand. If there's a move to make, JD will be in line for tickets.
SEA has some nice young talent: Ackley, Pineda, Smoak, Hernandez of course who's still only 25 (seems like he has been in the league forever), Peguero, etc. Maybe they shouldn't be taken so lightly.
Good Point, Kristen. They've either caught lightening and will flame out or they are for real. Either way, Rangers need to catch a streak of their own to win the division.
Went to the Washington / Seattle game tonight. Pretty much sucked through 8 innings, then got to see the Nat's score 5 in the bottom of the 9th to win 6-5 with a 3 run walk-off HR by their rookie catcher. They did a really nice tribute to Pudge Rodriguez before the game since it was 20 years ago today that he made his debut. It was fun to see a lot of old Rangers clips from the 90s. Pudge had the night off, but was in the on deck circle to hit for the pitcher, and I was thinking how cool it would be for him to hit the game winner, but Wilson Ramos hit the game winner. I'll take it. Then I made it home to see the Rangers get a walk-off win.
zack greinke the same guy w/ a 5.23 era and -.2 WAR this year?
ERA is garbage. Ignore it. Always.
Greinke has a 1.95 xFIP and a +1.5 WAR (Fangraphs, which correctly uses FIP for WAR). He's been as good as ever.
Mitch Moreland says F*** you Seattle, I do it myself!
Ok thanks for clarifying that rangers100. I knew era was not very indicitive of a pitcher's performance, but baseball-reference didn't have a FIP that I could find so I used ERA. Did not think there would be that much of a discrepancy in WAR though, wow. I use baseball-reference b/c it's free and I assumed fangraphs was a paysite, though I've never been to it, so I don't really know what that assumption is based on.
Everything about Seattle number wise (minus the win column) says this team is mediocre. Yet, here they sit again .5 games back. Creeping up and poised to take first place. How much longer are they going to keep winning? How much longer are the Rangers not gong to take advantage of runners in scoring position, play bad defense, etc? Are the Rangers ever going to get a good win streak going again or will they keep winning 2, losing 3-5, ad nausam. If Seattle gets 1st place in the West it will truly demonstrate be a pathetic and sad day.
12.5 games back just 1 month later.
