Forum > Two guys that interest me

And first off, NO... I'm not talking about taking on their huge salaries. I'm talking, "maybe they'll take a non-top-tier prospect or two and eat his salary" kind of trade. For the two teams/players I'[m talkingabout, seeing how NOBODY is dumb enough to take on their salaries, the player is now simply a commodit. Which means, you can either (A) get some prospects for him, or (B) run him out there on the field everyday, get bad results, and be constant reminder of how stupid you were to get him in the first place.

Without further ado... Vernon Wells or Alex Rios...

Granted, this year they are screwing the pooch big time, but just last year and career wise, these guys have had from solid to FANTASTIC years. THey're not that old, and maybe a change of scenery where they don't have the pressure of those huge contracts in the fans mind can flip a switch and they revert back to the players they were till just this year.

Wells is early 30s, so we've seen his best, but if he reverts back to what he should be, We've got a VERY GOOD OF with the glove and the bat. The Dude hit 31 homers last year and has won goldgloves.

Alex Rios is in his late 20s and had 21 homers and 34 steals last year and has a good glove.

A change of scenery, fans who aren't pissed about how much the team is paying for them... The lowered pressure and being on a contending team, they could get hot again and carry us to a WS.

funny that you bring Wells up.... i was reading the club house post about how the angels are broke and i was thinking to myself "doesnt Wells always rake at the ballpark?" however that being said, he's not worth the money owed and is getting too old. if we're not getting rid of MY it'd be the equivelant of having a second MY. and when they both stop producing we wouldnt beable to get rid of them without eating their salary or waiting til their contract expires.

If it wasnt for the acquisition of Leonys Martin, i'd be all over the alex rios idea.... however whether it be later this year, or next year.... it'll be leonys time in Texas

Sorry to kill your buzz, i like the ideas in general i just think there are too many risks and intangibles to acquire either player.

Wells is too expensive, and is a real age concern. Rios would cost the farm to acquire, since he's in his prime and is a top 10 offensive CF. Not sure how good his defense is, though. I think they have to focus all their efforts and resources on pitching this trade season...

If the Angels or the White Sox believe Wells or Rios is going to rebound, why would they trade them for no value AND eat their contracts?

If they aren't pitchers I am not real interested. Pitching Pitching Pitching. Relief or starting you can't have too much of it.

If I could get ONE non-pitcher, to ADD to the Roster, as a starter-
