What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
Arthur Rhodes (Well, it should be).
Why Ron Washington keeps handing the ball to this guy time and time again is beyond me. I do not know the exact amount of games our bullpen has blown, but taking into consideration that it is at least 5, our record goes from 35-29 to 40-24 (Could be more or less, it's just speculation). Neftali Feliz seems to have corrected his problems, Darren Oliver is easier to depend on than Arthur Rhodes (I know that's not saying much), Mark Lowe has returned to form from his days in Seattle, and Darren O'Day says he may be back by the end of June. I'd rather see Michael Kirkman in Rhodes' role. I don't care what it takes, whether it be buying-out his contract or trading him (I doubt anyone would want him) but it's fairly obvious this guy is not the Arthur Rhodes the Rangers thought they had signed during the offseason.
While it's true that Rhodes didn't get the job done, most of the blame for that loss has to fall on shoddy umpiring.
I don't see how Rhodes gets blamed at all. He's a lefty specialist, and he was left in there vs. a right handed hitter. This isn't going to space out right, but go look at his vs left/right stats.
Right / Left AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB HBP SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPSvs. Left 24 2 5 0 0 1 2 4 0 5 1 0 .208|.321|.333|.655vs. Right 35 7 13 3 0 3 9 2 0 6 0 0 .371|.405|.714|1.120
Welp, scratch what I said. He murdered right handers last year. Screw Rhodes.
Rhodes body language and in glove whispers to himself, says-"I think I can hold the RH Bats to a .353 average"Success Sir, you have.
The question isn't necessarily why does Wash keep handing him the ball, but why does he let him keep it once a right handed batter comes to the plate. All of his trouble recently has come against righties. In the game last night, he retired the lefty he faced. The splits Adam posted pretty much tell the story.
I think his body language reflects more of an "i'm overweight and i forgot howfucking hot texas gets"...... he just seems to be laboring out there from the first pitch
