Forum > Heath Bell

So... what will Texas be willing to give up to get Heath Bell? Seems from their roster at least that they could use a power 1B prospect like Chris Davis. Then I imagine they'd want a top pitching arm, so that's Scheppers. Then they are going to want another top prospect - Engel Beltre? And Texas would probably have to thrown in one other name... Davis, Scheppers, Beltre & a B level guy for Bell. Would you do that?

I give em Kinsler straight up and throw in his attitude as a bonus. It was interesting when they had Moreland miked up the other day - Kinsler was whining about Moreland taking a foul ball and Moreland matter of factly said " call the ball, you can play".

that was very revealing.

Few relievers, including closers or setups, command that much respect OR Market Value.
Certainly not Heath Bell. That size of a deal is way over inflated. Daniels will get his man.
Most Closers value flips like a coin. One day hero, next day bum. It's almost an expected fall.

WillyMo - Where did you hear that? Do you have a link?

That sounds like a starting pitchers package not a closers. However you might be right in that the Padres successfully hold up someone for Bell. The Rangers should not be that someone. I personally wouldn't give up CD for RP of any type. TS I believe is damaged goods or at least two years away from being usable since he has the bulging disk issue.

I think it was the Saturday broadcast on Fox. Greive was on the broadcast. For some reason they had audio on Moreland.

me must have considerable nads to say that to a veteran but my guess is that Kinsler pisses alot of his teammates off.

yesterday he takes a long pouting walk after the FIRST pitch is called a strike. When you show up the ump on the first pitch you set the trigger point for later in the game... I love his game when he is focused and not reacting but that is not what you get day in and day out.

I knew Mitch was miked-up. On the pop up Mitch called AND caught I heard something
semi-crass that Kins said to Mitch after, then I heard Mitch reply, looking down at the
ground, not at Kins... "Then call for the ball..."
I didn't hear the last part, from Mitch. Kins looked semi-shocked face, as in "Well, I never..."

Kinsler is signed through 2012, with a club option of $10M for 2013. Perhaps Jurikson Profar replaces Kinsler in 2014 or sooner.

I would be interested in reading an argument written by Joey M on why (or why not) the Rangers should keep Kinsler beyond 2012.

First pose the question to the BBTiA readership through the Sunday 5 question segment.

May 30, 2011 at 12:35 PM | Unregistered Commentertexaslifter

Why titillate readers with such a question(s)? People vent about each & every player.
Kinsler is a 'core guy'. There's no controversy here. Why make it into one? Peoples Nit
opinions will be heard, just with your input. Yeah, stir the frick'n soup. It's a non-issue.
I shouldn't have said anything earlier. Stuff, as such, happens *daily in the clubhouse.
It's basically a marriage, of intensity.

"Why titillate readers with such a question(s)? "

Because that's what the sports media do. MY, Harrison, and Feliz have recently been under scrutiny on this site. Put the litmus test on Kinsler.

May 30, 2011 at 1:26 PM | Unregistered Commentertexaslifter

I don't know about this attitude question - Kinsler seems fine to me, and he's definitely a team player, and well loved by the team, by all appearances. He plays a good defense, and even considering his awful slumps, if you consider the end product, which is 20 homers, 20 steals, .250 average ... he's definitely one of the top 5 2b in the league. So my question would be - who are you going to put in there that's going to give you more than that? At the moment, I can't think of anyone. So it would be dumb to trade him now, methinks.

Why move Joey in a corner, when YOU can start your own opinion litmus test?
Just start your own forum question, if it's that important of a query to you.

Id rather JD go after Gregorson or Adams underated guys, under team control longer and maybe you dont have to give up a Profar to get one of them

May 30, 2011 at 2:09 PM | Unregistered CommenterMartin

Martin - why would SD trade a young, talented guy like Adams who can close games at a discount of the cost for multiple years, and keep Bell with his bloated contract? And if they did, wouldn't their price tag be bigger, since their salaries are smaller (than Bell's)?

SD does seem to be a good match for Texas, since they could use Chris Davis, and there's the Adrian Gonzalez precedent there... And I'd rather have Bell than KRod. But I do agree that it would suck to overpay to get him.

May 30, 2011 at 2:20 PM | Unregistered CommenterWWJDD?

That is the greatness of this site is it not @HUBZ? We are allowed to contribute, challenge each other, and basically stick out necks out with HSO's, and BBTiA gets valuable content for free making this a much better experience.

May 30, 2011 at 2:22 PM | Unregistered Commentermhilg

I'd rather go after Mike Adams than Bell myself.

May 30, 2011 at 2:49 PM | Unregistered CommenterMarktown

But they aren't going to make Adams or Gregerson available, not if they are trying to move Bell to save $ / get a couple of prospects.

May 30, 2011 at 4:15 PM | Unregistered CommenterWWJDD?

I doubt any other team in MLB sees Beltre as a top prospect. He looks absolutely horrible in AA and he'll probably never improve his plate discipline. He's Greg Golson in a few years. Also don't see why SD would want Davis when they have Rizzo who they got in the Gonzalez deal and who's an infinitely better prospect. Plus, Scheppers is injured. SD would basically be getting garbage for Bell. They could do way better.

I read just today on mlbtraderumors that the Padres are willing to deal any of their bullpen arms.

Who says they have to keep Bell? They can trade him too. Lots of teams need an All-Star Closer, we need a Set up man, And Adams is talented but hes only one year younger then Bell..

SD does seem to be a good match for Texas, since they could use Chris Davis, and there's the Adrian Gonzalez precedent there...

SD has Rizzo, a 1B Prospect they got from Boston for AGOne who is tearing it up in AAA. The only reason i think theyd want CD is at 3rd or COF wich hurts his value bc he is a great defender at first.

wouldn't their price tag be bigger, since their salaries are smaller (than Bell's)?

Adams is getting around 2-3 Mill this year after ARB. he could get around 5-6 Mill and maybe up to 7.5 if the Pads trade Bell and move Adams to closer. Adams has never been able to close, kinda like Madson before this year, and Adams has been injury prone and has only pitched well for 2 seasons. Plus SD owes us for Agone and C. Young just saying

I love how facial expressions during a snippet of an on field discussion are being analyzed like the Zapruder film and then being used to suggest roster moves.
