What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
Ok, as the majority are assuming, Dave Barnett will finish out the season and will likely not be retained. There's a slight chance of Dolgin keeping the job if he does well, however i personally have been at live event he's been at and the dude has a SHORT fuse. if something minor doesnt go his way, the dude explodes. off air of course (however i could see him dropping a patented TAG "i dont give a shit" live on the air on more than one occasion), that btw... was classic.
However, since both contracts are not past 2011 who do you want as the rangers PbP man next to TAG. I'm assuming the majority are going to say Nadel, however lets just assume that the rangers want to keep him on radio. so BESIDES Nadel, who would be your logical replacement for next year's PbP.
I for one would like to see Mark Mclemore. I enjoy the inning he does, he has good chemistry with TAG, and it would be great to have two former professional players and the knowledge they bring. Same goes for Busby.
Would the rangers diversify, would they give dana larsen a chance? hell they gave rhads? do they go off the cuff, and grab someone more polarizing... say Dale Hanson.... if theyre willing to take a gamble on someone without former PbP experience in Rhads, have they learned their lesson, or are they willing to take the gamble again. just a few ideas.
Besides McClemore I personally, would like them to strike an agreement with Lewin and bring him back. The chemistry between him and TAG was one of the most enjoyable things about watching the rangers games on FoxSports as opposed to ESPN. I know Nolan's a stubborn ass but maybe if Lewin can agree to cut the schtick stick to baseball and keep the seinfeld references down... maybe an agreement can be reached. who knows. anyways... who do you want?
ZZZzzzz... No offense DC, but I'm really glad it's over. Most, will move on to REAL Baseball
You are a stubborn ass DCaggie and at least Nolan is a badass as well. You are just a stubborn ass.
I like your Mark Mclemore idea though, but do you think he has the excitement factor?
When all is said and done I'm glad the Rhads thing is over especially because I don't have to listen to all of the annoying posts complaining about him but also because he didn't know what he was doing.
The Rangers could hire the best PBP man in the history of the game or the worst PBP man in the history of the game and I wouldn't care half as much as folks around here have about the position the last two months.
Keep Barnett, use McLemore/Larson/Nadel/Busby/Anyone...I really don't care all that much
1. Nadel2. Lewin3. Barnett4. Someone else with experience calling games.
McClemore is good in the booth now but he's not acting as the PBP guy, he's a 2nd color analyst. You put Mac and TAG in the booth, you will hear all about their playing days and great insight into the game, but who's going to call the plays?
Side note...I love how Joe just pops in occasionally now, usually to call someone a name. It's funny because he made his big splash being so opposed to ad hominem attacks. But he's already proven to be cool with hypocricy so now I just enjoy the irony.
I definitely think the Rangers need a proven play-by-play guy. Mac is a good analyst but not PxP. If we learned anythng from the Rhadigan experiment, it's that play-by-play experience is the first requirement for this job. I really liked Josh Lewin, because when a true baseball play happened, he handled it like a pro. The other stuff was just part of watching a baseball game--you talk and joke around. But that 2 or 3 or 4 times a game when it really matters, you need someone that can deliver. Bengie Molina's triple, for example. Go get a true TV play-by-play professional.
I agree... i too am a stubborn ass. as much abuse as ive taken here i keep coming back lol. i agree with the most of yall though, youre right Mac would be another color guy, and he his a little too laid back. I dont think he brings the excitement.
i truly think the best solution is suckin it up and bringin back lewin if possible.
what i woudlnt give to hear BallGame! again....
sometimes i shout it randomly when i'm in bed w the ladies! lol
Nadel would be great, but I don't think he will leave radio. It is what he knows and loves. Short of that, the most logical move is to lure a pro here from somewhere else. We got Lewin from Detroit years ago. The Angels got Victor Rojas from us (via a brief run at MLB network). There is no reason to look in-house.
Despite the game, I was actually very please with how Barnett handled the PbP duties last night. It could be the whole fun of driving a new car thing... however i was very pleased with how he did. He seemed a little more excitable than he normally is on the radio, and him and TAG had pretty good chemistry.
I do got give a shout out to TAG for his classy goodbye to Rhads in the 6th, it was a very classy move on his part to say goodbye to Rhads and show his appreciation and wish him luck and to welcome barnett to the future. hopefully Barnett can keep this up, and we might have something.
but again... we'll have to wait til the new shine's off.
Nadel has been offered the TV job on a couple of occasions and has always turned it down. Don't know his reasoning, just don't expect him to leave radio.
I like DB and would love to see him get the job full time.
What's wrong with Nadel doing both radio AND TV like they do with the Stars?
I dont think anyone would have a problem with that, I think Nadel doesnt want to do TV. i've heard on more than one occasion he's turned down the tv job. Maybe he's just more comfortable doing radio. He does a damn good job of it too. So far Barnett's not doing too bad. He's definitely showing a little more personality on tv then radio. He was going nuts over todays game. so thats definitely a positive cuz he knows the game well, he's local, and his only knock has been he can be a little boring. So far so good.
I'd love to see them find announcers that are up on the latest research and findings about the nature of the game over the past 10 years. Nadel is great, and I hope he stays as long as he wants, but this is one area where I've been disappointed by him as well. Especially since I know he's smart enough to be up on this stuff were he to take the time to do the homework.
This is what I hated most about the Lewin firing. Lewin didn't mix in WAR and FIP and BABIP talk that often, but that was only because he knows his audience is 95% comprised of people who like cookie talk and Sonic Slam innings and all the banal chatter that fills most Fox Sports regional baseball broadcasts. But it was clear that he knows this stuff and is up on the game, and it colored his analysis, even where the terms were not used directly.
Unfortunately Nolan Ryan is threatened by having too many people much smarter than him around the club, so he fired Lewin.
lol. i like your comment about ryan. I've met the man multiple times. he used to frequent a restaurant I worked at during college and i got to "know" him fairly well during our regular comings and goings and what not. and He is absolutely the most surly stubborn SOB there is. and What nolan says goes. That being said, had Lewin maybe referenced cattle as much as he referenced Seinfeld he might still be doing our PbP
