MJH on accountability
Guys, if you have any family or live in Oklahoma, PLEASE keep an eye on weather today. Feel free to be a smart ass about how people from Oklahoma suck anyway, but I'm dead serious. Today is going to be crazy!
I'm supposed to go to the game tonight. But, I don't really want to die.
Oklahoma weather in May do what it do....
Just another day in the middle of the bullseye.
Unfortunately, this isn't your typical spring day in the plains. Today could end up looking a lot like the Alabama outbreak on April 27.
Here is a good video explaining the current atmospheric conditions as they compare to the May 1999 outbreak across central Oklahoma. I had family in Chickasha, OK when that F5 tore through the area that year and visited them about 2 months later and could not believe the devastation. If you live in those areas stay informed for sure.
Bit of a non-sequitur, but several people over at StormTrack agree with me that the formation of the Joplin tornado was absolutely unprecedented. If you watch this video, you'll find that it evolved from a wispy circulation to a full-fledged wedge tornado in less than 20 SECONDS, and took less than 90 seconds to become a rolling OKC-like monster.
Anyway, yes, be safe Oklahomans -- lots of discrete supercells firing west of OKC right now, very dangerous situation evolving. Time will tell if DFW manages to stay out of the hornet's nest.
Are we going to get a complete ball game in Arlington tonight?
Storms are starting to pop up on the line of whichita falls to Abilene as well. Looks as though the entire region from DFW to central Kansas is under the gun.
At least 2 wedges are already on the ground E and NE of OKC, seeing some damage. Hard to say how powerful, but I've seen a few small structures, trees, and powerlines down.
