Forum > CJ Wilson outduels Roy Halladay...

Great pitching battle in Game 1 @ Philly. The common media storyline is that Halladay outdueled Wilson, but like many baseball narratives, that's not true. Wilson was slightly better (at least if we don't consider differences in opposing lineup ability)... just not quite as lucky. But that's also how baseball go.

Wilson: 7.0 IP, 10 Ks, 2 BBs, 6 FBs. 2.00 xFIP.
Halladay: 8.0 IP, 7 Ks, 1 BB, 3 FBs. 2.03 xFIP.

2 HRs off 6 FBs is very unlucky. 2 bad pitches (both hanging change-ups) for sure... but bad pitches are often simply roped for singles, lined at fielders for outs, hit 395 feet and caught at the wall, etc. See, the change-up that Madson hung to Beltre in the 9th... and got away with when Beltre (who was sitting all over it) just got under it a little too much and skied it for an easy out.
