Or Dustin Mosely, Joel Peralta, Kevin Corriea...... I just hate how they were counting on guys who were already hurt or havent pitched/Started in the Majors.
Omar Beltre
Eric Hurley
Scott Feldman
Brandon Webb
Tommy Hunter
Ogando/ I know hes doing great but hes never started before.
If your going to count on them why not resign Mcarthy??
Martin
Mostly the pitching staff has been a debacle. The only thing that's worked (other than CJ) is Ogando starting, but that's also contributed to the bad bullpen. Is there a worse bullpen in the AL at the moment? And right now with Harrison & Holland sucking it up, you gotta count on CJ and Lewis to win to just keep at .500.
But really, if the offense were scoring runs like they should be able to do, the pitching wouldn't be such a glaring problem. Gotta call out the hitters for their epic fail of a last month.
Gawd I hope they don't go on a huge May bender and end up 10 games below .500.

McCarthy is having an outstanding year so far. But let's face it, he gave the Rangers absolutely no reason to bring him back. Maybe this is a classic "change of scenery" type thing for him. 5 bucks says he is on the DL by the All-Star break. If I am wrong, he could be at that game. Who knows, but I wish him nothing but the best unless he is pitching against the Rangers. Sure do miss Frankie. Always liked that guy.
SteveBalboni
Yeah and Chris Young is out for the season, by all reports. I'm also not holding my breath on Bartolo Colon, LOL. I don't think Francis is much better than Bush, either. I expect JD figured the team would hold it's own until the trade deadline where they could shore up pitching if they needed to.
They need to.
WWJDD?
seriously though do we not have any decent starters in AAA or even AA that we could promote to the bull pen? What's with the immediate give up with Kirkman? I know he didnt have the best ST, but i only remember him pitching in one game. I remember it going horribly, but then he was IMMEDIATELY sent down to AAA. Why did he have such a shorter leash compared to Lowe, Strop, etc.
I think we need to start looking for some random scraps in FA. I dont think anyone picked up Silva after his melt down... he seriously cant be worse than we got. Can we give Nippert a call? i was pissed when they let him go. Awful as a starter, but highly reliable in the long relief and set up when needed role. can we talk Pettite out of retirement? The thing that's irritating is there are things that CAN be done, but it doesnt appear like anything will be done. its almost as if JD and Ryan are just waiting for the team to be healthy and see what happens. i dont want it to be too late.

You know, the bullpen is really catching the brunt of the criticism for this team's downfall over the last 3 weeks, and rightfully so. What I can't for the life of me understand is why more people aren't realizing the awful situations that those guys are getting thrown into. For one, the starters are giving us 6 innings fairly regularly and keeping the team in the game. However, when the pitch count gets up, or they walk a couple guys or whatever, Wash has to go to a relatively unproven group of guys that have absolutely zero insurance on the board at all. If our starter can't make it through the 7th inning, the bullpen is almost guaranteed to be forced into high pressure situations because the offense has done jack squat to give them any breathing room. Then, you have truly green guys like Tucker and Eppley to come in and inherit runners with no breathing room.
We are almost guaranteed to lose if the starter doesn't go 7 because the offense just flat ass isn't doing anything whatsoever to give our pitchers some breathing room. Chris Davis needs to go. Mitch needs to play 1st base. Craig Gentry needs to play RF until Cruz comes back. Borbon needs to play CF. Murphy needs to play LF. Napoli needs to catch in games against a lefty starter. MY needs to DH.
We can't afford to cut any corners whatsoever defensively, and our left side needs to play more error-free baseball. Runs are at a premium right now no matter who we are facing, so regardless of who is crying or pissed off, Wash has got to start fielding the best baseball team that he's got.
TheNatural
I totally agree with you, Natural. I think the Napoli signing has put Wash in a really bad position, since he has to keep juggling the lineup to get him at bats, and not only is he sometimes forcing bad matchups, but this lineup juggling is probably part of the reason why some guys never seem to get in their groove. Now, what accounts for the everyday guys sucking the big one, who knows? But the bottom line is - this offense on paper is supposed to be one of the best in baseball, even without Joshy Josh. Right now - not so much.
Agree they should leave Davis in AAA and wait until July to include him in a deal - he needs new scenery. Let Moreland play every day. Let Borbon play every day, with Gentry as the 4th OF to spell the other guys when they need a day off. Napoli no longer at 1B ever - only DH and C against lefties. Stability! I think it's time to give Tucker back to Round Rock and see what someone else can do. I'm starting to feel the same way about Eppley. Oliver and Rhodes should both be LOOGS at this point in their careers. Ugh - this team has so many problems...

Clearly not picking up Colon was a huge blunder, I mean, everyone here was saying how great a move that would be last offseason.
Pull T
Colon will fade, and it won't take long for the fading to start.
Tex Pantego
No one was saying it would have been a great move but how could it have been a bad move to sign him to a Minor League deal??!?
Martin
Tommy Hunter and Eric Hurley weren't hurt at the time signing these players would have been an option. You can't predict a guy taking a shot to the dome.
DCA06- Calling guys up from the minors isn't as easy as he goes up he goes down. The 40 man is really tight right now and isn't flexible enough to call up a guy like Tateyama who would be another in the O'Day/Eppely mold. Kirkman was given a short leash because he has been terrible no matter where he has been this year. Spring Training he was awful, he was terrible in AAA, got called up somehow and was terrible again. He has given no reason for a leash longer than what he currently has.

Sure, hindsight might look a bit gray, but I can't fault JD for not picking up
any of the pitchers available. I was maybe one of few that saw the worth
of obtaining Beltre at 3B. As my Grand Dad says, "He looks like Pie Traynor,
with that sweep in front of Elvis".
JD had to have the confidence in the staff shown before him. It's still early and the
ASB is soon coming, for trades. After May, the fan line becomes more polarizing.
It's going to be interesting to see where opinions fall and reality comes to the surface.
Hubz
Eric Hurley was hurt for years how could you have any confidence in guys who havent pitched in years?
Martin
Josh Rupe just got released maybe the Rangers sign him to a Minor League deal?
Martin
TheNatural is spot on.
OldSchool

You can Never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever EVER have enough pitching.
Shouldnt JD have been trying to get more pitchers to replace Cliff Lee??
Instead he Non tenders Mcarthy whos pitching better then Lee rite now,
Trades F. Fransisco,
and Doesnt take a waiver on guys like Colon, C. Young, J. Francis, Kevin Millwood and F. Garcia I know they wont keep up their outstanding performance but it would have been nice to have those guys on Minor League deals instead of Webb who hasnt pitched in 2+ years.
Cant wait for everyone to get healthy.... Go Rangers.
