What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
Texas Rangers created an email account for suggestions as to how the "fan experience" could be improved. I will be emailing it daily with complaints about the organization hiring a PBP guy with zero experience after the greatest year in franchise history (while replacing a guy who has been recognized as a viable national PBP guy).
If interested, here is the email address: firstname.lastname@example.org
My complaint has been sent.
Sent my complaint email about Rhads and about the crummy hitting and had an acknowledgement in an hour.
Here is what I just sent. Maybe too long, but whatever...
I am a hardcore Rangers fan and have been since around 1993. I live in Austin so 99% of my Rangers experience is watching them on TV. I have never felt the need to submit a comment on an announcer at any time during my life as a sports fan, but Rhadigan as the play by play guy for my Texas Rangers is simply inexcusable. For all the talk this past off season of enhancing the fan experience, I cannot for the life of me figure out how a guy with zero experience as a play by play announcer was given the full time job to call games for the defending American League champs. John seems like a very nice guy and I always felt he was very good as a studio guy but he simply does not do an adequate job of calling a baseball game as it is happening live. He often confuses the pitch count, game situations, what part of the field the ball is hit to and is terrible at recognizing a home run off the bat that seemingly every other play by play guy can.
I'm not saying this for effect: I have found myself just turn the game off if the Rangers aren't playing well. And it's not because I am fair weathered...ask my wife, I watch this team 120+ times a year on TV regardless of how good they are and have since about 1993. But Rhadigan just pisses me off and I have found that being pissed about something so trivial is a waste of my time. So I miss on some Rangers baseball because of how shitty the play by play guy is. Of course, I am going to still watch more than I don't, but when we are getting blown out or it’s a late west coast game...I used to force myself to watch those as a show of true fandom...not now. I hope that you will recognize this as not a rambling rant from a disgruntled fan, but as the observations of a diehard Rangers fan who is frustrated with the TV broadcasts because of the completely inexperienced and incompetent play by play announcer. I used to get annoyed at times with Josh Lewin’s “goofy” personality but it was easy to recognize that he was very good at calling a game and adding excitement to the moment.
My hope is that the situation is corrected sooner than later; I know there are at least 3 men in the Dallas metro currently more qualified for this position (Lewin, the great Eric Nadel, Dave Barnett) and probably more. When my wife, who is not a huge baseball fan, remarks that the announcer seems confused, well, that’s a problem. I will never quit being a Rangers fan, and it is because of how much I love this team that I care about this issue so much. Thank you for giving us fans the outlet to voice our opinions and concerns and thank you for your continued efforts to make the Texas Rangers one of the premier MLB franchises in the country.
Just sent in my complaint.
Wouldn't it be awesome if the just brought back Josh? It ain't happening, but we can dream...
I'd take Dave Barnett, I thought he has been pretty good on TV with TAG. Maybe that's kinda like a middle ground that the organization can go with.
Adam ... great well written note. Got an acknowlegement to the email I sent them yesterday ... so you should as well. Was sent by Rick Weintraub, Texas Rangers Advisory Board Chairman. Not sure if it is an official internal Rangers office since it isn't a texasrangers.com email address. But we shall see. Enough people send in notes like yours then someone has to formally decide if they have an issue to work or not.
Thanks for sharing.
Probably coulda done without the "shitty" but felt 1 good jab would was necessary.
The decision to hire Rhadigan is puzzling...they may as well have made Dana Jacobson the PBP person.
At least Rhadigan is not afraid of dead air space. Lewin just ran his mouth (constantly) with usless info about how many people fowled a ball to left field, etc, etc. Lewin's load of crap wore very thin by the third inding . Let him go back to radio and die
I don't think its so much that Rhad isn't afraid of dead air space, but instead he can't really figure out how to make it go away without sounding like there is half a bear claw lodged in the back of his throat.
How does one "fowl" a ball?
I say replace Rhadigan with Norm MacDonald. I'd end up still watching games if it was the 8th-inning and we were down by 33 just to listen to Norm go off on hilarious swearing-filled tangents.
I like Rhadigan better than Lewin, and I realize Rhads leaves much to be desired, still like him better than Lewin any day even with the poor play calling.
