Who is this Greinke stiff you all keep posting about? He's helping MIL as much as Webb is helping TEX right now. He's a skinny weak spare.

May 5, 2011 at 12:55 PM | Unregistered CommenterWindingmywatch

@DCAggie06 ... Armando Galarraga ... hmmmm. I seem to remember a guy by that name that used to pitch for TEX. You mean the same Armando Galarraga who was DFA'd to make room for Jason Jennings couple of seasons back? The guy who is 3-2 for AZ and has given up 11HRs?

May 5, 2011 at 1:04 PM | Unregistered CommenterWindingmywatch

yeah that gallaraga. remember the point is for the trade to be realistic. The key of that trade is getting chris young. and i know we used to have gallaraga. but right now there is a very slim diff btw galarraga and harrison right now. plus who cares when youre getting King Felix. F*** who your 5th pitcher is, he could be replaced by webb feldman or kirkman for all i care.

@adam.... right now the bags of wash pubes have more value than rhadigan.... i dont think you could get half a bucket of baseballs for rhads

May 5, 2011 at 1:25 PM | Unregistered Commenterdcaggie06

How about Scheppers and Engel Beltre for Erik Bedard. Seems realistic.

OR CD, Ross/Erlin, Beltre to the Cubs for Byrd and Dempster.

Or Scheppers, Robbie Ross, and Engel Beltre for Drew Storen

May 5, 2011 at 1:34 PM | Unregistered CommenterSteveBalboni

@Dcaggie06,
Is this a DREAM trade or REALISTIC trade scenario? You seem to mixing the two words that are complete opposites. Seriously...It is clearly a DREAM trade to trade murph, hunter, and beltre to ATL for hanson because a) that is their ace of the present and future b) You wouldnt be able to get that to work even in MLB The Show with forced trades ON. SEA isnt trading Felix, FLA isnt trading Johnson, STL isnt trading Pujols, so there is nothing realistic about proposing a deal for those guys.

May 5, 2011 at 2:13 PM | Unregistered CommenterRyan from Waco

look the point is to have some fun with it. o

f course none of these trades are truly possible. i know we're not gonna get pujols, or fielder, or felix or basically anyone else i put in my trades.

i swear.... look i'm a grown ass man, i'm doing this $h!t up at work when i'm taking a break or ten. i'm not some 15 yr old on my mom's internet connection. But,

Ppl... you dont have to be so serious all the time. my point was feasible trades in which player wise and monetarily wise could work. i.e. like i said earlier no CD and a bag of pubes for roy halladay. as far as anything else. just go for it. have some fun. i swear its like this entire forum is full of accountants, ppl in finance, and middle managers. you all have no concept of imagination.

its just a simple activity in setting up a trade that looks good TO YOU. nobody is here to judge

just have some fun!

What Ryan said.

I think I understand your idea, Dcaggie06, and I'm not trying to be a doosh. My problem is that I don't see the point of trying to come up with a "dream" trade scenario that could never happen. Like I said earlier, it just seems like an exercise in finding great players on other teams and offering up completely bogus trade offers that would never work in real life - and if that's the case, why involve TRADES at all - why not just cut to the chase and list out players on other teams that you covet, that you wish the Rangers had?

A much more "fun" exercise to me is to try to come up with ways to improve the team through trades that could possibly happen, considering team depth, team needs, payroll, salary, contract, free agency, and team performance - which is what does happen in real life.

For instance, I would love for the team to go and get Greinke - but there is a lot involved with that. You have to consider his salary, his contract, Mil's performance so far, his health, what types of players Mil would need to get back in return, and what kind of players Texas has to offer for him, and of course his feelings about playing in Texas. And all of this is moot at the moment because it's only early May, and Mil surely has no intention of trading the guy away at this point in the season - they have only seen him pitch 1 time for them.

Maybe the short answer to you is that your idea of "fun" game wasn't as "fun" as you thought it was. Again, not trying to be a doosh, buddy - just trying to explain the push back.

May 5, 2011 at 4:37 PM | Unregistered CommenterWWJDD?

Greinke isn't worth squat. Plus can't play BB either.

May 5, 2011 at 4:45 PM | Unregistered CommenterWindingmywatch

nah its cool. it is what it is. i think everyone is taking it way to serious though. but i feel like all sports forums tend to turn into this. everyone (not saying you in paticular) thinks they know more, all, or better than the next. Every one thinks theyre the next peter gammons or buster olney. its easy being an arm chair qb. i get it, you gotta be passionate about your sports teams. it just sucks that when you try to liven things up a bit and maybe spread some joy, ppl have to rain on your parade.

i just want ppl to take one minute to remember what it was like when they were like 10. think of every sports team you loved. there was always that situation where you would catch yourself thinking "wow, i wish we had so and so", or "if only we this guy we'd win a championship".

i was simply just attempting to gauge the variey and imagination of some of the posters here. and give some ppl some other things to think about than arguing over how underwhelming the team is right now, or the bullpen, or thad vs hurdle.

You say why come up with a dream scenario that can never happen... I say why the hell not... thats why its a dream scenario.

i'll put it this way. you and I (well i dunno you... you could look like brad pitt for all i know... me... i'm just lucky to bag the chick i married) will NEVER have a chance to date jessica biel, jessica alba, kim kardashian... whatever floats your boat.... that doesnt stop you from thinking what if.....and popping in thay Ray J tape and rubbing one out (sorry had to lighten the mood)

May 5, 2011 at 5:16 PM | Unregistered CommenterDcaggie06

When I was 10, I lived in New Jersey and the Yankees already had all my favorite players on their team: Chris Chambliss, Thurman Munson, Ron Guidry, Craig Nettles, Willie Randolph, Goose Gossage, Oscar Gamble, Mickey Rivers, Lou Pinella, Sparky Lyle...

May 5, 2011 at 5:48 PM | Unregistered CommenterWWJDD?

Despite much resistance i have decided to continue this forum. and for one reason alone. Stubborness? maybe. I'm a jackass? of course! but the real reason... Cliff Fuckin Lee.

If we were playing this game last year and some jackass (as i'm sure i'm referred to around here) said hey lets trade justin smoak, blake beaven, (i cant even remember the others they were so unimportant) for Cliff Lee.... 90% of you would be coming after him with fire and pitchforks for making such a stupid assumption. but you know what? it happened. The texas rangers got cliff lee. That being said, although some of these ideas might seem ridiculous, thats the way baseball go. and you never know what can happen. just like i firmly believe that if St. Louis is not in contention, we have a decent shot at Carpenter. You say Felix Hernandez and Pujols arent going anywhere... who knows. Actually chances are pretty high Felix gets traded. this is his last year in Seattle and everyone expects him to go to the yankees after that. when it comes to a rent a player.... all is fair game. Pujols said he'll veto any trade.... wait until St. Louis has no shot at the playoffs prior to the trade deadline. I guarantee you he'll take a shot at going to a team thats playoff bound, even if it is just for less than half a season.

The point is not everything you think is so ridiculous doesnt mean its not possible.

May 5, 2011 at 8:50 PM | Unregistered CommenterDcaggie06

That's not true, DC Aggie. After about 1 month it was plain as day that Seattle was a terrible team and that there was no way they were going to keep Cliff Lee and lose him to free agency for nothing but a couple of picks. Everyone knew he would be traded, and everyone also knew that Texas would be pushing hard to get a front line pitcher for the playoff push. It was a natural fit from the beginning, and we were all counting on JD and Nolan to get someone like Lee, if not Lee himself.

The problem with your post is that, as was mentioned earlier, you started off by talking about "realistic" trades, but your definition of realistic first of all wasn't very clear, and second your examples were extremely unrealistic, in the sense you were targeting guys who are not going to be available, or if they are, they're going to cost way more than what you were giving up.

You seem offended that everyone isn't playing along with your "fun" little game, but I think the fact that they aren't isn't as much an indication that there's something wrong with them (like you suggest - you say they are too serious or they lack imagination), but more of an indication that the game itself is simply not very fun.

May 5, 2011 at 9:49 PM | Unregistered CommenterWWJDD?

@ Dcaggie06
I really want to emphasize that I do not intend any of my posts to be taken as a "bashing" or something, that's not what I am about. I am just a realist, I see the world as it is, and not as what people want it to be; hence my dislike of some of these trade proposals.

As for Cliff Lee: It was a foregone conclusion that he was going to be traded last season as soon as the Mariners and everybody else in baseball realized that Seattle was going to suck again, and also because he was in the last year of his deal. Also, that package was a very fair deal for both sides: SEA benefits for the future, while we benefited for last season only.(of course as I write this post, Smoak hits his 5th homer of the season...case in point I guess).
Felix is a different case: He is signed for 3 more seasons (albeit at about 19 million per), through 2014, and while a few "baseball" people say that he could be traded, most executives and all the other "baseball" people say that there is no way he gets dealt, especially when you see that he can be paired with Pineda at the top of the rotation for the next 3 seasons to form the best 1-2 punch in the AL.
Again, this is not meant to be a bashing or showing you up in any way, just simply stating my view on this specific situation that you brought up. And I do concede to you that anything CAN happen, which is what makes baseball such a great game, but I have always been the type of guy to stay as real as possible....it makes those HOLY SHIT DID THAT JUST HAPPEN? moments that much better.

May 5, 2011 at 9:51 PM | Unregistered CommenterRyan from Waco

@ryan

i hear ya man. its kinda like me in college. always told myself i was gonna make Cs so when i somehow made an A it was like WTF?! lets party.

i didnt think you were bashin me. all's cool. i just wish a few more ppl would participate in what i felt was just a fun way to kill some time and show some extra love for the game and our rangers.

side note... i was unaware that Felix still had that many years on his contract. with all the trade talk i was under the impression this was his last year under contract. that actually makes me happy. 3 more years of him on a shitty seattle team than w the yankees.

My dream trade would be Mike Napoli for Frank Fransicso.

May 6, 2011 at 12:05 AM | Unregistered CommenterSentinel

Ok.... to appease the powers that be... here is an attempt at a realistic trade.

Trade: Phillies
MY, Scheppers, Holland
for Cole Hamels

<-- why works, Utley is still hurt, MY fits that, Lidge is always hurt Scheppers could be their closer of the future. Lefty for a Lefty

and i still gotta go with this one:

Trade: Boston
Napoli, Profar, Kirkman, Hunter
for John Lackey, Papelbon

<-- why this works. Boston is in dire need of a catcher, Salty is horrible and Varitek is getting too old. Bard will move to their closer. we have to take Dice-k or lackey i figured lackey is the lesser of two evils. papelbon can take the 8th and allows ogando to stay in the rotation, and if they resign him there is no question he's our closer and feliz would be in the rotation. Profar is their SS of the future.

Rotation: CJ, Hamels, Lackey, Ogando, Harrison/Webb

1B: Mitch Moreland
2B: Ian Kinsler
3B: Beltre
SS:Andrus
RF: Cruz
CF: Borbon/Gentry/Martin
LF: D Murph
C: Yorvit/TT <-- i still say pick up Bengie off FA
DH: Hambone

there you go. my attempt at realistic. i see this working. but then again... everyone tends to disagree w me.

Get in line for the reality of dealing with the ChiSox, as their demise
is unfolding before our eyes. The ASB will bring the bounty of needs.
Which Players from ChiSox fit the Rangers for our 2011 Playoffs?
Sign-ability to stay a Ranger?

May 6, 2011 at 8:22 AM | Unregistered CommenterHubZ

@Hub Z ... Need to take dibs on Danks and AJ

May 6, 2011 at 8:33 AM | Unregistered CommenterWindingmywatch

i'm down with a sox trade:

proposed trade:
Cruz, Lewis, Holland, Scheppers, Kirkman, CD(3B), Napoli
for Danks, Floyd, Quentin, Crain, Pyrzenski

why this works they obviously need a closer for the future thry get that in Scheppers. I'm hesitant to give up Ogando to make th deal, but would be open to it. They get a big bat in Cruz, we get an almost equal bat, less power, however more reliable. they get CD to develop at 3B in case morel doesnt work out. Napoli is an upgrade over AJ, but gives us still a solid back up. Crain helps our bullpen.

Addtl "Trade"

release tomtko or Bush to AAA

and pick up Pettite or Pedro Martinez

i mainly would pick up Pettite just to stick it to the yankes. the best part of the whole cliff lee thing was it finally showed NY that they dont run baseball. And i honestly believe taking lee from under them helped the rangers have a psychological edge that helped us beat them in the alcs. they were no longer the big bad yankees.

getting pettite as a "long reliever/spot starter <-- that's what he'd really be would just be another slap in the face to the oh so mighty yanks

Rotation: CJ, Danks, Floyd, Hunter, Ogando/Webb/Pettite/Martinez

Positions:
1B: MM
2B: Kins
3B: Beltre
SS: Andrus
RF: Quenrin
CF: Borbon/Gentry/Martin
LF: Hambone/D Murph
C: Yorvit/AJ
DH: MY

Err, I meant Frank Fransicso for Mike Napoli.

May 6, 2011 at 10:46 AM | Unregistered CommenterSentinel

I think Lackey is done - he's worth very little at this point. File him away with Scott Kazmir and Dontrelle Willis.

May 6, 2011 at 10:49 AM | Unregistered CommenterWWJDD?

@wwjd

i'm inclined to agree however i dont see boston parting with becket, lester, or buckholz... so its either lackey or dice k... i figure lackey might be the lesser of two evils. i'd be willing to do the trade without a starter. the key is getting Paps. A lot of ppl think he's done, but i think he creates a lot of possibilities. if we obtain him he could be our shutdown 8th inning guy. however if they still send ogando to the BP we officially have the best 7,8,9 inning Bullpen in baseball. but the best part is we resign him, and next year we have a decent closer (yeah he's gonna blow a few saves but what closer doesnt) but it allows both ogando AND Feliz to be in the rotation.

come on though i try to give you something realistic and this is what i get? throw a dog a bone man?! lol
