Forum > rhadigan or bosley?

If you had the power, would you rather replace rhadigan or bosley for the rest of the season? Or just ride it out? I haven't watched enough of the rangers this year to really know. Rhadigan seems to be improving, but he did refer to a ground rule double as an automatic double. Is this anemic offense due to bosley or just coincidence? Thoughts and observations. (I don't mean for this to be an attack on rhads or bos, just curious as to what ppl who've been paying closer attention think)

Love the post lol. I just did me a similar thad related post. I think ppl are starting to catch on. Answer is simple replace Thad. Rhadigan will be alot more enjoyable to listen too when the rangers start hitting and winning. Until then i resort to heavy liver abuse of alcohol and xanax. lol.

Strike that anemic comment. Rangers are 4th in majors in runs scored, but the question remains. Again I preface this with the admission that I have watched very little of the rangers thus far, but is it possible that since their hot start, opposing teams have adjusted their approach to counter the rangers aggressiveness? I honestly don't know and am not trying to condemn bosley. Also rhads referred to the ground rule double as an automatic double during the scoring recap.

I don't think any of us are adequately informed on what Bosley has or has not done, beyond a few sentences quoted by the beat writers. The offense is fine. Direct your ire elsewhere.

No offense to the head honcho, but if the offense is not the problem why are we struggling to score with runners in scoring position? We just finished up a 10 game home stand so its not like we werent in a hitters park, and we havent faced that steller of pitching as of late sans CC, Weaver, and Cahill. Guess you could throw Morrow in there. We also have been struggling to score against somewhat mediocre teams. I know we have pitching issues as well, but i'm failing to see any adjustments being made by the hitters and you cant turn a blind eye to how bad our hitters are struggling. It honestly feels like some games we're trotting out half a team offensively. Something has to change, whether its call ups, send downs, or line up adjustments there is no denying this offense is struggling, and there is no guarantee its just magically gonna become the top offense in baseball once hambone returns.

A ground rule double is an automatic double. I think Rhads has gotten better, and will continue to do so. It takes time. Should Texas have put a guy in there with no experience in play by play? Not in my opinion, but he can only get better. I'm sure that nerves have a lot to do with it as well. As the season grinds on, he'll settle into a groove. There will always be people who don't like the guys in the booth. There were a large number of people who disliked Lewin as well. You can't please everyone.

i know, i just found it odd that he would use that phrasing rather than the baseball parliance of ground rule double.

no ire whatsoever. i tried to make that clear. i did not call for either of these people being replaced, nor did i say that either was incompetent. i did refer to the offense as "anemic", but then i also redacted that statement. i was just simply trying to say that i have not been able to watch as much of the rangers this year as i would like to, and i don't really know how bosley has impacted this team. this is the only rangers website i go to because i think this is the most informative with the most intelligent commenters, and if anything worth reading pops up on another site, it is usually linked here. i only point that out b/c i don't remember any articles with in-depth analysis on the offense, and i was wondering what people thought about it. i'm certainly not trying to condemn this site in any way by saying i haven't read any offensive based articles, i don't read every article and it's possible i missed one, plus it's your website and you're free to write about whatever you choose to write about, and i very much appreciate what this website and you offer. so please don't misread this as "ire", i'm simply wondering what people think about the offense. i understand how any question posed as, "who would you rather replace?" could be interpreted as me saying that one, or both should be replaced, but it was honestly just a question. i didn't condemn either, or express any ire in my posts, though i can see how that may have been inferred. purely hypothetical. just curious as to what the good people of bbtia think.

If we are going to blame Bosley for the anemic parts of the offense, should we also credit him for the way MY and Torrealba are performing well over their career norms? Basically, my point is that I believe that the main difference in hitting coaches are their strategies for what hitter should try to do in different in-game situations (RISP, simply moving runners up when needed, etc.) and mechanics tweaks to give them the best chance to perform at a high level. Some guys like their hitters to be aggressive when the pitcher is struggling, some are opposite. However in the end, it is the hitter who decides to swing at a pitch outside of the zone, or watch a pitch down the middle on an 0-0 count.
One example I could give you is Vlad: when he was in LAA, he would swing at every damn pitch and hit it most of the time...in TEX he did the same thing...in BAL, he's doing it again... He's had a different hitting coach each of the last 3 season, yet his approach is virtually the same. Any changes he has made would be difficult for any of us to notice as it would likely be something mechanical in his swing that is fixed behind the scenes, but his approach at the plate is the same as it's always been.
I'm drinking so I don't know if this makes any damn sense, but whatever.

The Rangers are 4th in the majors in scoring despite having the reigning MVP on the shelf...yet Bosley needs to go? Lunacy.

Clint Hurdle must be related to most of the posters here at BBTiA...I am convinced of it. That's the only way to explain the reverence he is given for presiding over the second most *anemic* offense in the BIA era. Chicks digging the long ball is so last century...now they dig productive outs.

And you grammar tards should probably cool it since it's not actually a "ground rule" double when a ball bounces over the fence...that is a misnomer, a common one, but a misnomer nonetheless.

per dictionary.com

ground rule double
–noun Baseball .
a safe hit ruled for two bases according to the rules of a particular stadium, as when a fly ball bounces once in the outfield and then clears a fence.

ok so it's not in websters, and it may not be an accepted word, but it is part of baseball parlance and most people know what it is. i think calling me retarded is unnecessary and offensive. thanks guys, for continuing to bash me for referring to this offense as anemic, EVEN THOUGH I CORRECTED MYSELF BEFORE ANYONE ELSE BROUGHT IT UP. "STRIKE THAT ANEMIC COMMENT" MEANS FORGET ABOUT THAT EFFING COMMENT! IF I COULD GO BACK AND DELETE IT I WOULD, BUT I CAN'T, SO I SAID STRIKE IT. CHEESE AND RICE. I DID NOT CALL FOR ANYONE TO BE FIRED OR REPLACED OR STATE THAT ANYONE WAS DOING AN INADEQUATE JOB. I SIMPLY POSED A QUESTION, AND FRAMED THAT SAYING "I HONESTLY DON'T KNOW, AND AM NOT TRYING TO CONDEMN BOSLEY." sorry for the all caps but i keep having to defend myself for no reason, I DID NOT SAY THAT BOSLEY WAS BAD OR ANYTHING OF THE LIKE! i see how the question could have an accusatory tone, but that was not my intention. i apologize for the incendiary questions. this thread is the suck.

@pull t

A "hat trick" also isn't an officially recognized term - but it's a baseball term nonetheless.

The point is that no one who has played/watched a significant amount of baseball would call a ground-rule double an "automatic" double. I just find it comical that Lewin was supposedly not resigned b/c he wasn't "pure baseball" enough for Nolan.

Rhads is about as far as you can get from "pure baseball."

I think you are missing my point...

I'm not saying that it is *wrong* to call it a ground rule double...that's the most common phrase for it, obviously. I;m just saying that not calling it a "ground rule double" doesn't mean the announcer is the biggest idiot on the planet.

Having had Extra Inning package for the better part of a decade, I;ve heard a lot of different announcers and have heard many phrases for the play...all of which are perfectly acceptable since the vast majority of viewers know the result of the play without needing an explaination, unlike say, a ball off a scaffold or something, a "ground rule"

I've heard it referred to as:

".. a ground rule double by Smith..." (again, the most common)
"...and it bounces into the stands. Two bases for Smith..."
"...automatic double for Smith..."
"...and he's held at second with a double into the seats..."
or even simply it being called a "double"...

Obviously, since the Rhadigan hate is at a fever pitch right now, anything he says gets blasted. I don't think the guy is great or even average, but I don't sit on the edge of my seat waiting to take a mental red marker to every phrase he utters either.

Huh?

The Rangers have the 2nd best offense in the AL (.339 wOBA). Why are we proposing firing the hitting coach?

To answer the original question of the thread, BOTH.
