Forum > Rhadigan is the suck

Samson, you gotta be kidding me. The criticizm is warranted for him. Whoever hired him should be blamed the most. I understand why he would take the job; its a promotion for him. But the experiment is over. He is just not a play by play guy. I have no personal vendetta towards him, I just think he is terrible at his current job. I would love to just put him back on the pre and post and get almost any other experienced PBP guy.

Seriously, Rhadigan is terrible. He has absolutely no idea what the hell is going on and he has the PBP announcing personality of a wet mop.

In the 7-1 victory on Monday night, I do not recall a single instance of him displaying an inkling of excitement - and that was an awesome game for the Rangers!

I am as befuddled as everyone else:

1) Coming off of the team's first ever Woeld Series run and most exciting season to date
2) Signed new $3 billion TV deal
3) Stable ownership group in place with deep pockets

What the hell?

I understand wanting to upgrade the on-air live game representation of the team, but this is not an upgrade. I take the title of the post a step further and proclaim Rhadigan the epitamy of suck.

I understand wanting to upgrade the on-air live game representation of the team, but this is not an upgrade.

Um, what were you thinking they could upgrade to? What were many regulars here, at LoneStarBall, and elsewhere among Rangers fans thinking was going to follow Lewin?

Lewin was awesome. And a really baseball smart guy. A guy who knows and appreciates sabermetrics but who also realized 95% of the audience is Mildred from Azle, not FanGraphs readers.

Rhadigan is exactly what Fox Sports affiliate play-by-play guys usually sound like. Josh Lewin wasn't. He was as good as we ever could have had in such a role. And good old Nolan Ryan fired him because he wasn't "baseball enough."

This is really the first time I got to listen to Rhadigan broadcast (Just got MLB.tv) and he makes a lot of mistakes during broadcast and seemed to stumble over himself to fix them. I also puked a little bit in my mouth when he sayed "It's time for baseball, y'all" before the game.

Did anyone catch the "lonestar longball" call?

Barf.

The ownership group is going after every TX Baseball Fan. It's all Texas. From the dugouts to the flag girls to the home run call, which is better than his first (something boys). As one of the players said last night they usually don't start hitting until May. Hopefully he keeps getting better. This isn't the teams only Broadcasting misstep. Who signs a new Radio contract after reaching the World Series for the 1st time & get gets bumped off the station. The broadcast's are 2nd to any Mav game. You'd think it was SMU Basketball.

Wasn't Rhadigan Nolan Ryan's choice of announcer? 'Nuff said.

I love the title of this post because it reminds me of something my foulmuthed 4-year-old nephew would say. Classic quotes from the swearing little guy include:

"Daddy is a Bullshit"
"McDonalds is fuck" (Mom and Dad are militant vegans)
"I need to make a shitty"
"I did freaking the fuck out"

and other gramatically incorrect gems.

Personally, I couldn't stand Lewin. His schlock had run its course early in year one. I always preferred Nadel. The Nadel-Rojas team I thought was excellent. Back to the present, Rhadigan is bad for different reasons. His lack of comfort in the booth and command of the game is palpable. There is nothing wrong with allowing the pictures do the talking (alah Jack Buck who I much prefer to Scully), but when you do open your mouth you need to have something to say of value. Rhadigan often doesn't say anything of value after long silences and doesn't utilize Grieve. Barnett is the obvious short term fix. His broadcast style is much more suited to TV than radio. Barnett on the radio is hard for me to take. Dolgin did very well paired with Nadel the other night to boot. Solve two problems at once.

Chris: This is so weird, I too feel the need to say the exact same thing in three different threads
