Forum > Rhadigan is Fine.....

Joe,

This thread exists because some of us believe we deserve a better PBP announcer, and are rightfully upset about it. No one is forcing you to click on the link and read this thread everyday. If you're sick of it, stop reading it.

Joe, glad to have you back. Since you have made 2 negative references towards DC and his Aggie roots, what school did you graduate from?

Again, the length and tennacity of this thread should show you once again, not everyone agrees with your views (and that's ok!)...you don't need to keep yelling back and insulting people.

Joe, you started this thread basically looking for people to oppose you. You titled it "Rhadigan is fine" knowing that the general consensus on this site is that he is NOT FINE. Don't start threads like this that basically beg for a ripping. I guess next you're going start another thread like this, try something like "Chris Davis should start over Moreland" or "Michael Young is the best defender on the team"

Awesome Ryan.

But to my point... I love the broadcast on FSSW today. I don't know how or why it's happened, but I'm thrilled about it. leaving now to bask in the magnificence of not being worried i'm going to have to saddle up for any kind of ride.

Like they said at the start of the broadcast... perfect day for baseball, gorgeous day, not a cloud in the sky, little bit of a breeze... but they left out the most important part. No Rhadigan.

I haven't kept up with the postings to this point but I've read a few pages. So, in light of that, I'll just jump in, hoping that I don't say anything that hasn't already been said a dozen times before.

Whenever Dave is doing PBP with Tom, I get happy because I know that I'll at least see a game with some emotional, exciting commentary, a more professional broadcast. I really really want to like Rhadigan, but I just don't know what to say. His end-of-game call is one of the worst in baseball ("There ya go, boys!") and he lacks a decent home run call. I agree that there is a lot of trial and error with finding the right call but I just don't think he'll pick it up. I say this because, as earlier posters have noted, he lacks a predictive instinct of the ball off the bat. You can tell where the ball will go by the pitch location, swing time, and how the bat flies off the ball. Rhadigan still hasn't been able to figure any of that out. He sounds almost robotic, like a video game commentator. As a result of this lacking, he cannot muster up any excitement or energy for the viewer. The game of baseball is a slow one that has moments that are incredibly exciting, and the anticipation of such moments occurring, and seeing such moments finally happening, helps to make this game as wonderful and exciting as it is. It is the job of the PBP man to harness that potential energy of the game and vocalize it. Even when he does get excited, it is after everyone else has already realized what has happened, and it just seems like he has little invested in it. Nadal, Barnett, Josh Lewin, Mark Holtz, all of them have a genuine affinity for the Rangers, and they show it in their voices. Rhadigan doesn't. I'm sure he does like the Rangers, having been with FSN for as long as he has, but he comes off sounding disconnected from the game and experience. He is trained as a news broadcaster, which is why he is so good at being an anchor, and why he calls the game like a teleprompter. I'm sure that's a difficult switch to make but if you can't generate excitement for a team like the first-place, defending AL champion Rangers, there must be a change made.

I'll stick with him, in the hopes that he'll pick it up and offer a more appealing product, but I'm not very optimistic about it.

@adam,

thanks for the support, however with his remark of "i won't be home for a month", Joe might be military.... that trumps the aggie card any day of the week. i support our troops. Even when their being pretentious DBs. but maybe he's not... i'm new to the site. yall might know him better...

I am an Aggie too brother - class of 2000. I don't think he's military because of the amount of time he spends insulting those who disagree with him. The service men I know aren't pretentious DBs but you know they have some in every group. If he is military, then he gets my respect...

I have felt your pain. I have a good job but it isn't thru the Network. I too post alot but it's because I more or less work for myself. I learned early that working at a job that you hate is a bad proposition...hope you can find something you enjoy. Yes, it looks like Aggie atheltics are threatening to become relevant once again. When I was in school, we always won at Kyle and racked up a bunch of Big 12 trophies in sports other than mens hoops...hope we can keep up the momentum.

Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of '98 here...

LOL...When i was in school, Kyle Field was defended and most of the minor sports were really good. But hoops was horrific...Barone would lead us to one or two conference wins a year in the old G Rollie Shithole.
